Shooters-- I believe I have finally narrowed my search down to
the Glock 30 & Glock 29! I very much like how each Glock takes down easy & reassemble's easy and both are reliable!
What I am concerned about is which Glock will shoot more comfortably --and which model Glock will tend to give better accuracy (if I do my part)?

My wife will also learn to shoot whatever Glock we buy.

I have 12 days to retirement-so that means I'll have more time to shoot.

Thank-you for your thoughts

if you do not reload, i suggest the 30. I wouldnt want to bring a full power 10mm in a short barrel off in the house without ear protection either.

I agree with the above, I will add that there is a big difference in the sub compacts and their bigger versions. I just shot my 20 and 29 today and I really hadn't noticed what a difference in recoil there was. Unless you are wanting a gun for hunting or Woods defense id just go with the 45

I have always been able to find 10mm ammo priced the same as 45 or less. It is not in every store you go into, but is there and when I find some I buy in bulk.

I'm a huge fan of my G-20 and think highly of the 10mm round. But even I will admit it is much more of a niche round. You will find more options for 45 and it is easier to find, not any cheaper though. For SD from 2 legged threats the 45 is plenty of power.

I own both G-20 and G-21. Even with the hottest Double Tap loads the 10mm is a soft shooting gun. I'd imagine the smaller 29 and 30 might both be a bit more abusive, but not by much. Both are very accurate. I can keep all of my shots in the head of a human silouhette target at 50 yards with either.

My 10mm serves a very limited, but important role for me. It is my backpacking/camping gun in areas where black bear are a threat. I spend a lot of time in such places and the 10mm is the best all around choice for me. If you need a gun for such uses then the G-29 is a very good option.

If you spend lots of time outdoors the G-29 is worth the slightly more effort that goes into finding ammo. If not I'd go G-30.

If 4 legged critters are a concern as well, go G29. If only 2 legged critters, G30 will do the trick.

What's on my nightstand you ask? G29 w/ G20 mag full of 15 rounds of 175gr Silvertip.

Since the title of the thread suggests this to be a HD weapon, the G-30 is the better choice - unless, of course, bears are a problem at your house.

The G-30 is, for me, actually fun to shoot - so I practice with it. Recoil is a push, not a snap. It's nothing to run a couple hundred rounds through it at the range.

It's now my primary CCW.

The 10mm is a fine cartridge, and my personal favorite among handgun rounds. But......for your purposes, the .45 will probably be a better choice. 10mm recoil in a compact gun is not going to make your wife enjoy shooting. In point of fact, if she's not fairly seasoned, she may well not like the G30, either. A G19 may be a better choice. Just my $0.02

I have a Glock 29. I love it. I need to learn to shoot it better, but I love it.

As much as I like it, I've got to say, that its a very loud gun, and I would really not want to shoot it inside... ever.

I think a .45 might be a better choice. Also, if its a home defense gun, maybe look into one of the larger ones? The sub-compacts tend to be a little harder to shoot, IMHO, and if you do decide to go the 10mm route, I don't think that the G20 is all that much larger than 29.

For your role, I too would say the 30 is a better bet. It's a fairly soft shooting .45. It's not as earsplitting and you can find everything from cheap ball practice ammo at around $13 a box for the Russian stuff up to super-duper expanding jhp for defense.

I'd like to get a 10mm myself, just just for fun and a camping gun. It wouldn't go into the nightstand gun safe simply because the excessive noise would negate any potential penetrating bonuses. Actually, my bump in the night gun is G21 because it isn't as much of an ear-cracker, I shoot it very well, and 13 rounds of high quality 230gr makes me feel better if I have to go tiptoeing out into the hall at 2:45 in the morning:neener:

I do reload, and I carried a G30 for several years, until I wised up and started carrying a G26. I traded the G30 for a G29, which I currently own, and which mostly resides in my safe.

I'd certainly recommend the G30 to the OP, between the options listed. I'd recommend the G26, for the same reason that I carry one and bought one for my daughter and one of my sons.

For a home defense and range gun, why not pick the larger version of each, the G21/G20. The only advantage for the G30/G29 is for concealment.

The G21/G20 would be easier to shoot well than their smaller brethren.

Not that it hasn't already been said, but it bears repeating I think...

In your shoes I'd choose the G30, and in fact I did. 10mm tends to be more expensive, and way harder to find in quantity and variety in my area. My experience with both calibers tells me that I shoot the .45 better than the .10mm; and the .45 isn't as loud, which may well matter to my ears if I ever have to set it off on my home.

I have both for different reasons. The G30 is a great HD/carry gun, 10+1 of .45 ACP is a potent equalizer. My G20 is my dedicated woods gun, and while a .45 is pretty effective against critters, the 10mm just increases my comfort zone when in the woods with my dogs. Also, I would really rather not shoot the G20 indoors without hearing protection. My wife likes shooting both BTW...

This. G30 would be perfect. The 10mm is an excellent cartridge but the .45 would fit you both better. I have a Gen4 G19 and it shoots and carries like a dream. I traded a G36 for it and would never regret it. I am much more accurate with the 9mm than the .45, but the G30 has a better grip and weight distribution than the G36 so you should be fine.
