Wondering about possibly getting a 36 for carry. I have a 19 and was either thinking about a 36 or a 26. I know there is a big difference between the 2( caliber)...but still wanted to see what everyone has to say.

I'm happy with a 26 but wouldn't mind giving a 36 a try. If you have a 19 you already have mags that will work in your 26 for 15+rd backup mags. The 26 holds 10+1 at the expense of being a 9mm vs. .45
Do you have small hands? I think the 36 is a little slimmer because it's a single stack. If you have larger hands you could look at the 30sf and have 10+1 of .45
Best bet is find a range that rents them and try out both. Get the one you do best with.

What is it for? & How will it be used?

That makes a difference to me. IF it's strictly a carry gun go with the G36.

If you want to complement your 9mm with little brother go for the 26.

I would go with the G36 myself.

:)

The G26 is a great addition to your G19. I once owned a G36 and now carry a G26. For whatever reason, I never shot the G36 as well as my other handguns. I also didn't like the "pinkie pinch" that the G36 produces when using the stock magazines. IMO, the G26 is much easier to shoot accurately and acceptance of G19 magazines significantly adds to its capability. The G26 is also easier to conceal.

My experiences with both models are the same as Weedmonk's. In addition, I found the 36 recoil and grip unpleasant. No feeding or mechanical problems, just didn't like it.

As much as I love the .45 ACP, I'd feel more comfortable with 11 rounds of 9mm than I would 7 of 45.

Realistically, 6 or 7 is plenty, especially with a spare mag. So I'd probably just get the one that feels better in your hand. (or a G30 :))

I carry a Glock 26. In 9mm you can't get any better. If I want to carry a .45 I'll carry my Kimber Ultra.

My main CCW is a Glock 26. Am I interested in a G36? Nope. Decreased magazine capacity, more recoil, larger gun, more expensive ammo. Why the heck would I want one? I think subcompact .45s are for those people that absolutely MUST have a .45, only a .45 will do! I don't really think sub-.45s make much sense, just my .02 :)

^^That's not a bad idea:D From the two I like the 26 because you already have ammo for it and mags that will work in it. I think that it is the more practical choice.

Thought about a G27? That is kind of the compromise option I guess.

Let's switch it up for a bit. What about G30 vs G26? Or a G39 vs G26? Thoughts on ACP vs GAP

The .45 GAP is a great idea, but until the ammo is more common I'm not interested.

Before I bought my G26 I tried the G30 and G36 at my local range that rents guns cheap. I went with the G26 because I shoot it more accurate than the 45's. If you can shoot all 3 and then decide.

Sold my G36 because it stovepiped on me too often. It is a common problem with the gun that most attribute to limp wristing. Despite the fact that it was probably more my grip than the gun I sold it. The friend that I sold it too is bigger than me and never had any problems. Ultimately, it was a case of "what if" for me and didn't see a reason to take the chance carrying a pistol that is not 100%.

I own the G36 and the 40 caliber cousin of the G26, the 27. I share the opinion of some of the earlier posters here. The G36 isn't very comfortable to shoot. Recoil was stiffer and more uncomfortable than the other Glocks. Also, in a side by side comparison the 36 is nearly identical in size to the 19 you already have. They'll fit in the same holster.

If I were one to give advice (which I'm really not), I'd recommend the 26 because of its interchangeability with the G19 magazines and its compactness. If you were really interested in a .45, I'd point you towards the G30. That is a FINE handgun - carried it today.

I'd have to vote on the 26, I put thousands of rounds through mine, never a problem. My dad has a Glock 36, has had lots of jams with it, having talked to the gunsmith, he said he's seen a lot of issues with the 36's, seems to be related to the magazines. I tried it myself to make sure it wasn't just being limp wristed, still jammed often.

i have shot a 36 and i didn't like it and since you already have the 19, i say keep the calibers the same, and mags too.

I personally think that if you choose to go down the Glock road, you owe it to yourself to get both the 19 and 26. In my opinion, the 9mm 19 and 26 are the best Glock has to offer.

That said, the 36 (and maybe the 23) is the only other Glock that I'd consider buying. Keep in mind that although the grip is single stack and rather slim when compared to the overly fat 21 and 30 grips, it still isn't quite as small of a gun as the 26. I'd say that the dimensions of the 36 are closer to the 19/23 (compact) guns.

I wish so badly that the 36 had a full 3-finger grip like the 19 instead of that stupid magazine base plate/finger extension. The 4" barrel size of the 19 and a light-rail wouldn't hurt either. Glock could have made a better "slim line" .45 if you ask me.

Check out the Kahr P45 over the 36. It's got the same barrel length but has a 1/2" shorter slide. Same capacity and a full length grip. Not a two finger grip with an extension on the mag. What a stupid design that is. I had a P45 and it shot very well but got a P40 since I like the caliber better.

I'd get the 26 over the 36. I've had them all and the 36 is my least favorite.

Own booth! They make a good pair.

I own both and I appreciate each for these reasons.
They are both concealable and easy to draw if the time comes.
The G26 is great for street defense. You have a compact firearm with the capability of handling large capacity magazines.
The G36 with it’s 45 caliber round is perfect for home defense. Odds are you won’t need to shoot often AND a 45 caliber round could probably go through just about any door or wall.

My choice, Take the G26 on your walk-abouts through town and keep your G36 close to your bed side.

Stay cool and safe.

Why are you commenting on a 3 year old thread:confused::eek:

I like .45s. I very much like the Glock 36. When I carry, that is the gun.
It has been flawless in operation with any .45 ball ammo that I have tried.
As with many Glocks, it is accurate.
Recoil is not an issue for me; I find that it is as comfortable to shoot as any other semi-auto that I have shot.
Nice gun. And 45ACP.
