Hey all. I wanted to get your opinions on possibly getting rid of my 36, either by selling it or trading it, for a 26.

I've owned my 36 for about 7 months, and have ran somewhere around 350 rounds through it. It's a great little gun, but I'm not thrilled with the way it carries. My first issue is it's size. The barrel length is about 3/4 or 1" shorter than my 1911, and the grip is about the diameter of a .45 round shorter than the 1911. I've often found myself wondering, if I'm going to carry the 36, then why not just carry the 1911 and have one more round in the magazine and a better trigger? They aren't all that different.

But on the flip side, one of my gripes about carrying the 36 IWB is that the muzzle digs into my hip. If it were about an inch shorter, it seems like it would be less of an issue. The 26 is about the right barrel length, and with a 19 magazine it fits my grip as well as the 36, if not a bit better. Besides, with the 19 magazine it bumps capacity from 6+1 to 15+1, I believe.

I know it all comes down to how they guns shoot for me and fit my hand, style of carry, etc, but I was just looking for some outside input on my idea. What's a fair price, or gun store trade in value, for a 36 and two magazines with about 350 rounds through it, and no noticeable finish wear? My LGS has a brand new 26 for 510. I think that's a bit high, what do y'all think?

Thanks!

I have a glock 35, i believe they are the same dimensions. I carried it off duty every now and then. But I recently bought a glock 23 for carry and love it. It is the compact. I held the g27 (i think its equivalent of the g26 for size) and found that i really dislike not having enough size for the pinky on the grip..you could always get the grip extension though... $510 does seem a tad high... but I get all my glocks for $398 new :) ... about the trade value, how much did you pay for the gun? And well you be selling it in the same market area that you bought it?

I can trade you straight across for a lightly used 1 year old Glock 23. :)

I bought it as a BUG but can't carry it now I carry an M9 at work where no BUG is authorized. Soon to be a Sig.

$510 is a good price.

TheGrim, the grip size issue is why I plan on using a Model 19 magazine in it, if I go this route. The guy at my LGS has a similar setup, a subcompact with a compact magazine in it. He has a spacer that fits over the magazine so that the portion sticking out is the same size as the grip frame. I'll be selling/ trading the 36 in the same general area I bought it in. I paid 525 for it, but I didn't do my research before I bought it.

M203, thanks but no thanks. I looked at the 23 on Glock's website, and it looks like it's the same general dimensions as the 36. I'm not terribly crazy about the .40 round, either.

My main carry guns are a 36 and 3" 1911. The 1911 conceal a little better, but the 36 is fine for me. I like both as well as my 19 for carry and fondled a new 23. As far as capacity goes, the 19 beats them all with a 15 rd standard and 17 rd extra mag. That said, I would never feel out gunned with the 36 or the 1911. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a 30 10+1 rds + a 13 rds extra mag. Keep the 36 if you can and pickup a 26 if can.

Why not just buy a 19, then?

I personally would keep the 36, since most defensive situations will be over well before the increased magazine capacity is beneficial. I carry a S&W CS45 in the winter, which has the same dimensions and capacity as a G36.

MachIVshooter, what I've been looking at is overall length. According to the Glock website, the 36 measures 6.7 inches, and the 26 is 6.29 inches. It doesn't sound like much, and to be honest it's less of a difference than I first thought. It seemed like there was more of a size difference when I was comparing them.

I'd suggest the G19. The G26 is a pain to shoot without the extended grip, which makes it the same size as a G19. The G19 also has a longer barrel which gives you more velocity, greater sight radius, and consequently, more potential for accuracy. Stick it IWB and the barrel is in your pants. No loss in concealability.

The only time I'd go for a G26 is if you might end up putting it in a BIG pants pocket or on your ankle.

Sounds like the 26 would be a great fit for you. I'm a huge fan of the 19, so maybe give that one a chance, but either way 9mm Glocks are the best of the breed.
