Glock 42 : Is it "Glock" reliable ?

I had a Glock 42 for some time and it was flawless like every other Glock I’ve owned with all ammunition except Buffalo Bore. It did not cycle well with the Buffalo Bore as it was a bit too hot to run correctly. Anything else was perfect without a single malfunction.

Mine was completely factory stock.

My experience with the GLOCK 42 is that it is an excellent pistol. I bought one for off duty carry as I like to pocket carry when out of uniform. It has been 100% reliable and I carried it till my wife shot it and then it became hers. She has arthritis in her wrists and cannot rack the slide of many pistols, but did not have a problem with the GLOCK 42. I bought another one for off duty carry until the SIG 365 had been out for long enough for to give it a try. I like the SIG 365, but the GLOCK 42 is easier to shoot, more compact and I forget I am even wearing it.
The SIG is a much more powerful pistol, but harder to control. As I get older, I may have to switch back to the GLOCK 42 for everyday carry as only hits count.

I use a GALCO pocket carry. It is also surprisingly accurate for such a small gun.

I bought one of the extended magazines and found it did not work well.

I stick with the flush magazines and have fired many different brands of ammo, with WINCHESTER Train & Defend as my carry load.

My only negative is the same one I have with all GLOCK pistols, the miserable takedown levers. They are the worst of any pistol line I can think of.

I changed the take down bar in all my Glocks with extended versions. A lot easier.

I live in a town where a somewhat well-known instructor also resides, and I went to a few pistol classes with him. He has a "9mm only" rule for the students and I had to negotiate a special dispensation. We found that my G42 can run a 1300-round count class with no issue. However, I understood that good reasons existed for students not to get too clever. For one, some drills involve dummy cartridges, and students have to be careful not to mix 9 and 380 as they are reused. Also, shooting of steel targets at short range requires frangible ammunition, not available in .380. So yeah, the littliest Glock is a real Glock, but in the same time it's not the same as the rest.

I mostly use my G42 with +2 extensions and I wish Glock just made a G42X with compatible magazines. The G43X has its own magazine, but IMHO that is excessive for G42. I would be happy to buy a 8-round G42X.

Shield Arms is making the 9 round mag for the G43 now. It would be nice if they made a 9 round for the G42 as well.

I made an extension for one of my G42 as a proof of concept. It wasn't about trying to cram the most rounds into the magazine, like everyone seems to be doing, but about making a more comfortable grip. It ran on 9-round ETS magazines. Here's a photo of the ugliest prototype:

The idea is to see what a G42X would look like with stock-compatible magazines instead of G42X with G43X-styled incompatible ones.

For me, lengthening the grip undoes the appeal for me. I do like your engineering.

Mine would occasionally jam with hollow points but got sent in for the upgrade way back when and it's been reliable ever since.
