Early last November I bought a G44 for a very nice price. I bought a G44 because of all the “rave reviews” I read about it. Mine was not one of those pistols.

It had the following issues:
  • Offhand shots grouped at 6” at 10 yards. Rested the groups were 4”
  • POI would shift left to right by a couple of inches. No idea why and Glock didn’t say.
  • Very ammo finicky. To the point where I wondered how many licks it would take to get to the chocolaty center…with a sledge hammer.
Ammo that worked well:
CCI Mini Mags, Velocitors and Stingers, Aquila Interceptor. Remington Golden Bullet.

Ammo that operated okay with a few FTEs: Aguila Super Extra jacketed and LRN, Federal Champion (blue box)

Ammo that didn’t work well in the G44:
Federal Gold Medal Match and Automatch
Winchester Super X high & hyper velocity and Wildcat, Remington Thunderbolt.

NONE were very accurate at all.

At the end of April I called Glock and shipped the gun to them. They received it on May 1st. I got it back on Friday, May 19th. Here are the docs they sent with it including the work order. On the work order it appears they listed the slide cover as a replacement part.

They also sent two targets showing some pretty good shooting by tech. #111. The knives are just holding the paper down.

Yesterday morning I field stripped the gun to see exactly what was done. They didn’t just replace a slide cover, they replaced the whole slide and the RSA and were kind enough to install the Hi Viz FO front sight I had on my gun when I sent it. It also appears that they did a really nice cleaning on the frame and frame parts or they replaced all the frame parts as well.

I took it to the range yesterday and put 240 rounds through it. It operated nearly perfectly. I had 2 FTEj’s that caused a jam. One with Fed Auto Match snd one with Aguila Super Extra 38 grain CPHP.
I shot:
CCI Mini Mag - 50 rounds
Fed Auto Match - 50 rounds
Federal American Eagle - 40 rounds
Aguila SE 38 gr. - 50 rounds
CCI Standard Velocity - 50 rounds

I was stoked when it fired and cycled perfectly with the CCI Std Velocity ammo.
Accuracy was fair but the weirdest thing was it seemed most accurate with Fed Auto Match. The ammo that didn’t work well with the gun before. More testing is needed to find what it truly likes.
It’s basically going to be another break-in. :D

I must say that I am very pleased that Glock came through. I have never sent a gun back to Glock. They didn’t communicate with me at all regarding what was done or what was needed. I guess the note I sent was enough.

Here are some photos showing the frame, slide and parts. All the slide parts look brand new except the extractor. It’s probably from the original slide.

I had some issues with mine at first. I lubed it like Glock recommended and it would be ok with CCI or Stingers but not so good with others. So I lube it with Ballistol like a 1911 and have had no issues with any brand be it 36 or 40 grain. The thing that I have an issue with is the firing pin sleeve as it is getting pounded bad. Finally got a Glock 44 firing pin assembly though it cost a $100.00 Canadian.
You Americans are lucky as Glock USA are really nice to talk to though they can’t do anything for us up here. Glock Canada are useless and won’t help you unless you are LEO or similar. I had issue with shooting high and guy from Glock USA would have sent me a higher sight for free but can’t. I finally got a hold of Glock Canada and he said or for sure will get it out right away. That was two years ago and still waiting and emails never answered.
My 44 isn’t as accurate as my Buckmark or Ruger but with the higher Glock front sight I finally got is pretty decent.
Glad Glock took care of you.

That’s good to hear they took care of you and it’s hopefully moving toward reliability. I’ve sort of lost interest in my P322 even though I planned on it being my girls’ new match gun and I bought a holster and pouches and 6 mags for it. It’s just not reliable enough.

I was mistaken. The metal portion of the slide still has the serial number yet it looks brand new. The plastic portion appears new. The gun had 2000 rounds through it when I sent it. I doubt they would refinish the metal on the slide.

Whatever they did, I am glad they did it. The gun runs like a champ.

One of the only Glock service posts I’ve read, and glad to see it’s on a trainer instead of a duty gun!

Looks like they took care of you.

Sorry to hear that your G-44 was not reliable out of the box. Glad to hear that Glock took care of the issues. I have heard of them going as far as replacing cracked frames and the like, so the level of service you received isn’t surprising to me.

I have been lucky to not have had the poor reliability issues your gun showed, but I will say my Glock 44 is in no way as accurate as my Rugers or S&W’s. :(

Stay safe.

If you buy enough guns, sooner or later, youre going to have a problem, and every maker has them.

Ive only dealt with Glocks customer service twice. Once back in the 80's, when they first showed up, I had a 17 with some sort of trigger issue, and a couple of years back, when I had a high round count gun break a rail. Both times they took care of the problem promptly, and didnt charge me for the work.

This last time it cost me $25 to ship the gun to them, but it was 9 years out of warranty, had around 150K through it, Id stippled the frame, and I wasnt expecting them to fix it for free either. A week or so later, it was back, new frame and the rest of the gun rebuilt. :)

I have two 44's, and mine have been decent shooters. Between the two of them, they have right around three cases of CCI Blazers through them now, at about a 50/50 split, and mix of a number of others.

The only ammo they havent liked so far, has been an older box of Federal Match that I had in the back of the locker. It was there because nothing else "automatic" liked them either and I gave up on them.

They arent target guns, but they are accurate enough for fun plinking and easily as accurate as any other Glock I have.

If you dont like the sights that come with the gun, I put 9mm Meprolight three dot night sights on mine, and they shoot real close to POA.

@Pat Riot I am glad that you are now happy with your G44 and the Glock took care of you. Now find the ammo your G44 likes and get out and practice until you can shrink those groups down as much s you can. And the main thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself while doing so.

For anyone that might be disappointed with the accuracy of the G44, remember that it is a trainer and not a target pistol. The G44 and similar training type 22lr pistols will never be as accurate as a target pistol. I never expected the G44 to be as accurate as my Ruger MkII, S&W 22A, or Kel-Tec CP33. That being said, the G44 is quite accurate for what it is which is a training pistol.
