Cliff Notes:

1) Very old Gen 3 Glock 23 (When gen3 first came out) broke the frame where the recoil spring guide rod seats
2) After a brief phone-call to Glock, got instructions for shipping her back
3) Shipped her back (Fed-ex next-day air) directly to Glock along with package of ammo we were using. I have no idea if ammo was the culprit, but our gunsmith suggested including the lot number might be a good idea. This was the most painful part of the process, as shipping was $75. By the way - just the ammo box - not the ammo!
4) Got her back today (less than 10 days later) with no bill, no return shipping charges, and a brand-new frame.

Who else replaces the frame on a years-old pistol with no questions asked? For free?

Glock Rocks!

Glad glock came through for you. Let's be honest though, a frame from glock probably cost them about $10 to make, if that much. But the price of the gunsmithing alone could have cost something and if they wanted to be pricks they could have charged for at least the shipping. This is good news that glock stands behind their products like this. I have a older gen 3 23 that I don't shoot that much anymore and it's good to know that if a problem arises that isn't my fault glock with more than likely take care of me

A fellow USPSA competitor sheared the locking lugs off on his 2nd gen glock last year. That thing had many tens of thousands of round through it, and was probably old enough to drink. Drove over to Glock and they replaced not only the broken barrel, but virtually every other part while he waited for $0.

I don't own a Glock, and don't care for them. But they have great customer service. Which is feasible, when your manufacturing costs are very low and you sell millions of units, the vast majority of which see very little actual use and therefore present no warranty exposure.

What broke, and why?

The portion of the frame that supports the rearmost contact area of the recoil spring guide rod. Where the take-down lever assembly is (which had actually fallen out of the frame due to the break).

Why? No idea. Could have been ammo but the wife (her gun) never noticed anything that would indicate a hot round or other problem. Factory Federal FMJs. In fact, she didn't know anything at all was wrong with it. I was getting ready to clean it for her after that range day when I pulled the trigger and the slide fell off the frame :) How long it had been firing with that portion of the frame broken I haven't a clue. It broke sometime that day - I would have noticed it during the last cleaning - but no idea when.

The guide-rod assembly itself was not damaged or worn, nor was anything else damaged.

Agreed that it's not a huge loss on their part. But many other companies would have responded quite differently. Return shipping that they paid for was even expedited. And there was at least some smithing involved, such as replacing the serial number on the frame (Based on other reports I read on various forums I expected the new frame to have a different #, possibly requiring shipment back to FFL, but they swapped out number to keep it matching).

I have purchased a number of guns from Davidson's Gallery Of Guns which gives a lifetime warranty of any guns purchased from them and just this last week had to use the warranty.

The pistol I purchased about two months ago had a major failure and all I needed to,do was take it back to the FFL dealer that handled the original order and a week later I had a brand new gun with no shipping or any other costs.

This is the second time I have used Davidson's lifetime warranty and It covers any brand they carry.
What could be better than that?
