Early last November I bought a G44 for a very nice price. I bought a G44 because of all the “rave reviews” I read about it. Mine was not one of those pistols.
It had the following issues:
CCI Mini Mags, Velocitors and Stingers, Aquila Interceptor. Remington Golden Bullet.
Ammo that operated okay with a few FTEs: Aguila Super Extra jacketed and LRN, Federal Champion (blue box)
Ammo that didn’t work well in the G44:
Federal Gold Medal Match and Automatch
Winchester Super X high & hyper velocity and Wildcat, Remington Thunderbolt.
NONE were very accurate at all.
At the end of April I called Glock and shipped the gun to them. They received it on May 1st. I got it back on Friday, May 19th. Here are the docs they sent with it including the work order. On the work order it appears they listed the slide cover as a replacement part.
They also sent two targets showing some pretty good shooting by tech. #111. The knives are just holding the paper down.
Yesterday morning I field stripped the gun to see exactly what was done. They didn’t just replace a slide cover, they replaced the whole slide and the RSA and were kind enough to install the Hi Viz FO front sight I had on my gun when I sent it. It also appears that they did a really nice cleaning on the frame and frame parts or they replaced all the frame parts as well.
I took it to the range yesterday and put 240 rounds through it. It operated nearly perfectly. I had 2 FTEj’s that caused a jam. One with Fed Auto Match snd one with Aguila Super Extra 38 grain CPHP.
I shot:
CCI Mini Mag - 50 rounds
Fed Auto Match - 50 rounds
Federal American Eagle - 40 rounds
Aguila SE 38 gr. - 50 rounds
CCI Standard Velocity - 50 rounds
I was stoked when it fired and cycled perfectly with the CCI Std Velocity ammo.
Accuracy was fair but the weirdest thing was it seemed most accurate with Fed Auto Match. The ammo that didn’t work well with the gun before. More testing is needed to find what it truly likes.
It’s basically going to be another break-in.
I must say that I am very pleased that Glock came through. I have never sent a gun back to Glock. They didn’t communicate with me at all regarding what was done or what was needed. I guess the note I sent was enough.
Here are some photos showing the frame, slide and parts. All the slide parts look brand new except the extractor. It’s probably from the original slide.
It had the following issues:
- Offhand shots grouped at 6” at 10 yards. Rested the groups were 4”
- POI would shift left to right by a couple of inches. No idea why and Glock didn’t say.
- Very ammo finicky. To the point where I wondered how many licks it would take to get to the chocolaty center…with a sledge hammer.
