What's good, and what's to be avoided at all costs?

Mongo say, "XD good".

Only other plastic gun I have much experience with is the CZ-100. I wouldn't say it's "avoid at all costs", but I considered myself quite ahead when I traded it and a Taurus revolver even up for the XD-40. I tried, I really did, but in the end concluded it wasn't going to be what I needed it to be.

Ah, yes, the CZ-100. The pistol with a trigger that breaks like a pencil.

The only things that I haven't seen mentioned yet are the Beretta 90-Two (worst name ever) and the CZ-RAMI -- they have polymer versions now.

The RAMI might be something to look at if you like 1911s.

There are a number of good polymer models; Sig, XD, Beretta PX4, and my favorite, the S&W M&P line-up. You'd probably be happy with any of these. Try 'em out at your local gunshop and see which one fits your hand the best.

Springfield XD, Smith & Wesson M&P, and Beretta Px4.

Those 3 pistols amaze me. I've been shooting XD's for a few years and they are awesome. Buddy bought an M&P and he hasn't put too many rounds through it but I'm very impressed with it. I rented a Px4 because I was curious about it and I'm very glad I did. It was deadly accurate, reliable, and felt great. I've never really been a Beretta fan but I'm very impressed.

Glock "Perfection"!

"Gentlemen,

Please review the attached image of one of our Department Issue weapons. This weapon was issued to a recruit this morning. The frame breakage occurred after the second round was fired. The ammo used is new (not reloaded) USA brand 9mm 115 grain FMJ.

Arrangements are being made to return the weapon to Glock for repair or replacement (after evaluation).

K. W. Barnes, Chief Deputy
Lyon County, Nevada"

I have used XD 4" 9mm for long time and have found the point and shape lead to quicker and more accurate shooting than a Glock. Some dislike the grip safety but I like it.

Recently my wife has been using the XD more and more often so I was looking to purchase another. The gunshop was out but had good deal on M&P 9c and I enjoy that weapon also.

I would say either XD or M&P is great weapon.
