Are the compact glocks as durable and reliable as the fullsize models.
Im going with a glock and when i take my ccw class I will purchase the Glock 30 for it. I already have a Glock 20 and the ammo is to expensive to practice regularly with so I will step down to .45.

Again to my question, Does the shorter slide and barrel result in a loss of performance besides velocity. Thanks for replies.

I have owned and carried a Glock 26 for the past 6 1/2 years. I bought the gun used with an unknown number of rounds already through it, and I have shot upwards of 20,000 rounds through it. Many of those rounds were fired in training classes, which means the gun would go over 500 rounds between cleanings (sometimes a lot more).

Normal maintenance has been required, stuff like replacing springs & other itsy bitsy parts. The firing pin had some tip erosion, replaced it when I replaced the spring. Nothing exceptional or major.

My G26 is scary accurate, more accurate than any short-barrelled firearm has any right to be. It's been very reliable and very tolerant of hard use.

I'd buy it again. ;)

ditto to what pax said

I've carried a G36 for the past 4 years
and simply do not care to have my life depend upon anything else

that may change sometime in the future
as perhaps something as good (not better) comes along
but I don't think so

shoot safe and often
and keep us posted

My G29 works just fine!

I like it but it doesn't get that much use since I stepped into the .40 S&W world.

I carried a .357 Snubbie, then tried the Glock 26 and never looked back. Accurate for its size and VERY reliable. over 3 years and thousands of rounds with no proble. I trust it so much I bought another one for my wife.

27

I carry a 22 for a daily carry piece and also have a 27, both are issue weapons. I rarely carry the 27 but do quailify with it. Last week I shot a 300 with the 22 and a 294 with the 27, so I'd say it shoots fairly good.

We're talking about GLOCK here, not Gov't vs Commander problems :D If you're on the other side of the river, perhaps you'll see problems.

Again to my question, Does the shorter slide and barrel result in a loss of performance besides velocity

Simple answer: No. Never had any problem with my big GLOCK or little GLOCK.

Not to hijack the thread but you were issued 2 weapons? Never seen a dept issue 2 weapons before.

My G23 is reliable and pretty accurate too. My friend has the G27 and it is as reliable as his G22.

though I have not put the thousands of rounds through it that some of you have. I have shot a thousand or so through it, usually a couple hundred at a time and it has been faultless. I personally think that is very easy to carry concealed and see no reason to go to the smaller 27 but that doesn't mean that I won't buy one:) I am buying a 32 right now and can't wait to try that out. I might also be trading a gun I have for sale for another G23.

My apologies for the continued thread drift.

I'm pretty sure Ga. State Patrol issues both the G22 and G27. GSP is known for having their budget well taken care of, and with Glock's LE pricing, well it wouldn't strain them in the least to do it.

My friends have shot their G26's more than I have my G22 and they have never had any probems and are much less strict about cleaning than I am. The Glock in any form is as durable as you are going to find imo.

I Owned the G30 and loved it but i had to sell it do to money problems i plan on buying another one in the Summer along with a G26 i never had any real issues with it. It fired great with the 5000+rds i put through it in less than a year
including 500rds of wolf in one day:neener:

You stole my thunder a little bit. I'm a confirmed .45 caliber shooter. It's the first handgun caliber I cut my teeth on, and I've been shooting it ever since. My first Glock was the G21, and that gun was a perfect fit for my big hands. It came to be one of my absolute favorite guns of all time.

Then I bought the G30.

In my experience, I have observed no difference in performance, accuracy, recoil, durability, reliability or ease of handling. Now that might be because I'm 6'4", and 245 lbs. But my G30 has since supplanted the G21 as my favorite. And not just for concealed carry, but for all shooting purposes.

You made a great choice, IMO. Get out there and enjoy it. :)

The shorter barrel, which is actually less than 1 inch shorter, will result in a slight drop in muzzle velocity, but since .45s' and 10mm generally use heavy bullets the drop is actually kind of small. Therefore performance may be marginally less, but definetely nothing to worry over. I believe that the subcompacts are on par will the full-size models durability, just make sure you replace the springs about 800 rounds through.

My 29 is just fine also, but my .40's get less firing time since I stepped into the world of 10mm ;) .

I don't have nearly as many rounds through my G26 as others here seem to, but I agree with their conclusions. It is a great little CCW pistol, accurate and pleasant to shoot. I also have a G27 which serves as my emergency back-up if my G26 is out of action for any reason. I do find that the Pierce grip extenders help me hold them better.
