i have a glock 22 and will be getting a glock 27 when I get my taxes (january), in the mean time I plan on carrying my glock 22 in a galco miami classic ii holster under a jacket or sweater. any place i can get a good deal on them or other suggestions for winter carry?

I also plan on carrying my glock 27 with a iwb holster. I heard many good things about the cross breed holster but I don't like the fact that it's big. Perhaps something easy to put on and off. What do you guys use for summer carry such as shorts and t shirts? smaller gun?

for the iwb holster, i like the fact that there is the clip goes under the belt, not over.

I am carrying a G27 right now in a Milt Sparks. Milt Sparks is THE holster maker for me, I have two and I'm getting ready to order another here in a little bit, I got the site up now. Funny thing is, both holster I have, one for a G27 and one for a G29, are the same model, and I'll probably be ordering another just like it for the 1006 I got.

The Milt Sparks holster I'm talking about is the Versa Max 2. I haven't found a better holster, and certainly for the price. You'll be waiting a while once you order it, and you need to order it at a certain time, they only take orders for a few days at the beginning of each month and when a quota is reached they stop taking orders. The VM2 was designed for the HKP7, so you can imagine how well the design works for mini Glocks.

You get this holster and a good gun belt, and get the loops that fit that belt, and you'll have a killer rig. Get the clips if you want to tuck it, they used to come with them but now they sell them separately. This was how they dealt with the recent depression to keep costs down, pretty smart. I have the horsehide ones, but Milt says the cowhide is just as good because of the treatment. But the horsehide is TOUGH and mine get worn daily and look new. I promise you won't find a better holster, and even if you don't like it, you can easily sell it for more than you paid; because of the wait time, some folks are willing to pay double or more for one of these holsters.

For winter carry, I just use the G29 if need be. I prefer a 10mm G29, it has no equal really, but for some reason I've been toting this G27 all year. Both hide equally well. If you want a rig for that G22, again, look at Milt Sparks. I thought about getting a VM2 for a G20SF (that thing is NICE!) but I got the 1006 and it is thinner. Anyway, I started a thread asking how well folks were able to conceal a G20 or 21 IWB and was kind of shocked at how well some of the folks on here pulled it off. You might be able to dig through my profile and find it, there were some pictures too.

Good luck and stay away from junk. Junk holsters are like junk scopes on $1000 rifles, and junk belts are like junk rings on a $1000 rifle and $1000 scope. Great analogy really. You want a good stiff (I prefer soft but double thick) gun belt that won't fold. The holster needs to be a good design and have belt loops that fit the belt nice and snug.

I should mention I got a Bladetech holster for 340PD. It was actually for a 649, but I modified it. Not bad for kydex really, but the loops would not stay buttoned. Unacceptable, so I JB welded them shut. Just be careful what you get, holsters can't usually be returned, and some decent makers turn out junk from time to time. This Bladetech for instance. As for kydex, I also have a Blackhawk Serpa lvl2. This thing is a great plastic holster and that extra retention is nice. It is semi-adjustable and fits nice and close with a good gun belt. I'd get one for the G22 and use interim while wating for Milt Sparks, and then use it for range use, woods, etc.

For my money, Milt Sparks can't be beat. If you have a little more to spare and they offer a rig you really want, Mitch Rosen is great. I think of these two as the best around. Alessi is another one, but I've never seen one.

But again, you can't go wrong with the Milt Sparks, and if you don't like it just sell it on here. Like I said, you will not lose money on this, you actually might make a few bucks. If you get one for the G22 and don't like it, let me know.

All I said comes from years of playing musical holsters. A lot of us carriers have wasted a lot of money trying holsters. Some gave up altogether. Some found a gem. Turns out the VM2 is a gem for a lot of folks, NEVER heard anyone knock one.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

thanks, just bought the miami classic ii today from opticsplanet through amazon, I was kind of disappointed both amazon and the main site said free shipping but ended up paying for shipping. Also bought an ankle holster too for the glock 27, i know i know people say it doesn't conceal very well but it was cheap enough that can serve as a alternative holster. ended up buying the gun yesterday, should be picking it up after the two day waiting period and my ccw permit should be in this week... next step, magazine extensions and iwb holster...

i carry a full size 1911 and the glock 29 in the comp-tac minotaur rig. It has interchangeable kydex bodies so for like 30 bucks each you can carry multiple guns on the same leather backing. The holster was like 89.oo but has been worth every penny. Its comfortable, has ajustable cant, and its pretty fair price. The customer service is great too.

I was looking forward to getting that miami classic holster through opticsplanet but they sent me an email saying that the order is on hold, no particular reason other than it may take 3-5 weeks to ship, but it said they had two in stock. Ouch! winter will be over by then and I won't be needing it anymore.. J/k. Hopefully I get a respond from them soon. My ankle holster is shipped already. kinda excited but what a bummer.

I personally like cobra gunskin holster I carry in a z100 open top very similar to the milt sparks summer special.

i got my glock 27 last week, decided to get it early and also tried out my new desantis apache ankle holster. Honestly I don't see the big fuss about it not concealing well cause it does to some degree. It is somewhat comfy but the only problem i've figured was it is almost impossible for me to do a quick draw or draw it fast enough.

I reordered the galco miami ii through LApolicegear.com and this time, free shipping along with a free b.o.b. (bug out bag). Yea the black model is back ordered eveywhere but great service there. still currently looking for an iwb holster. I think i'm going to try out the don hume clip on holster. too bad I can't find it in black.

I use a bianchi carry-lok for winter carry of my Glock 23 it is OWB, but fits close so a coat covers it really well. I don't have much experience with other bolsters, but I like this one.

I'm not sure why a certain holster material would be better suited for a particular type of gun as suggested above. I can tell you from experience in carrying different guns in different holsters types that for IWB all day carry, kydex becomes very uncomfortable against the body compared to leather.

- Glock's are very lightweight, so is kydex which keeps the overall carry package light. One of the main advantages to polymer pistols.
- Kydex is rough on a pistol's finish, Glock's have a very durable finish which can withstand the abuse from kydex better than a typical blued gun.
- Glock's have a relatively thick and square slide which is often difficult to use IWB, kydex holsters are typically thinner than leather holsters, reducing the overall thickness IWB.
- A rigid holster (kydex is very rigid) will protect the trigger of a Glock from inadvertent activation. By now I'm sure we've all seen the posting from the guy that had the floppy leather holster that fired his Glock while seated in his car.
- A quality kydex holster is typically cheaper than a quality leather holster. Cost savings are another typical advantage of polymer pistols over their metal counterparts and a reason some may choose a Glock.

Well, I'm wearing a G27 right now in a Milt Sparks VM2. I also have a G29 --and another VM2. I have a 1006, and I ordered a VM2 for it too. As far as I'm concerned, it is THE IWB holster. We'll see how it works out for the 1006, but for the Glocks they are peerless. Just order them with the right size belt loops and get a good gun belt, Walmart belts don't cut it. Milt Sparks makes a good belt, but that Galco gun belt is good too and may cost less. The only downside is you have to wait. They take a while, but they are worth it and you won't get a better holster for the price, that much is certain.

My rig conceals well (the belt loops are either side of the pistol, not on top of it) it is comfortable, fits right, VERY well made, and doesn't move. I don't leave without it, no reason to. Oh, and though I have the G29, my preferred calibre and pistol, I tend to carry this G27 more. With the VM2 and the pinkie +1 and a good belt, I think it is about the perfect carry rig. Just my opinion, I've had these two rigs for quite a few years now and they are still in great shape and I like 'em just as much now as I did when I got them, more even. I tend to go for black horsehide, that stuff still looks new almost.

Anyway, go check 'em out. Can't say enough good stuff about these holsters, especially for that G27. That and Pearce pinkie +1's for the carry mags.

IMO the material weight difference is negligible.

- Kydex is rough on a pistol's finish, Glock's have a very durable finish which can withstand the abuse from kydex better than a typical blued gun.
My experience is that leather shows more wear on a Glock than Kydex, however holster wear really should not be a concern, if you carry you are going to get it to some degree.[

Good point, although again IMO the difference is negligible.

I agree, which is why I prefer a hybrid style like Crossbreed or MTAC. It provides all the benefits of Kydex with the comfort of leather.

Not always, it depends on the holster maker. Check out Tommy Theiss for a great value on a "Crossbreed style" holster.

as much as I would like to try the crossbreed and other hybrid variant, I want to try something small out first. I'm constantly going to places that may not allow weapons such as school and work, honestly it's almost best if I didn't bring a gun at all sometimes. looking for something perhaps easy to put on and off. thanks for all the great suggestions guys.
