Glock conversion barrels

I bought a Storm Lake 40 to 9mm conversion barrel recently for my G27. My reasoning was that my department, like many, made the switch to 9mm Glocks instead on 40. Specifically the G45 from G22. The gen 3 G27 is my backup, and I was thinking about being able to carry department issued ammo in it. All I had to do was drop in the Storm Lake barrel. Thinking I might need a 9mm mag, I bought a Pro Mag 9mm mag. It runs great with plated handloads and factory ammo. It even runs fine with the G27 mag.
Odd side note; the G27 mag holds one extra round of 9mm, and runs fine. I tried loading my G22 mags with 9mm, and while it will cycle fine in the G45, the top round seems to pop out of the feed lips on its own when I carry it around. As always YMMV.

No, it is still in the original stock G27 configuration. I haven't came up for requal with it yet. I'll probably get an actual G26 mag for it by then. But if the department approves the conversion barrel, I plan to. If not, well I'll keep it stock. I do still like the 40 caliber after all. Most of what I was saying was to demonstrate how well the G27 ran with conversion parts in it.

Well I bought a Rock Slide USA 9mm conversion barrel for my G22. I haven't shot it yet, but it sure looks nice, and cycles snap caps well.

I bought a bunch of the KCI gen 2 Glock 17 magazines. They're as close as you can get to OEM without being OEM. I got em' for $10/mag. I gotta put a bunch of rounds through it yet, but this gun will be my new shtf gun if all works as it should

I really like the idea of getting a 357 Sig conversion barrel for it as well. I like the idea of having 3 caliber options in one gun. That way, when ammo is scarce, I have that many more opportunities to find ammo.

Now for a 380acp (as well as a 9mm Mak, and 7.62x25) pistol...

I will be very, very surprised if the admin allows an alternate barrel that changes the original caliber from .40 to 9mm. Not that in the grand scheme of things an alteration like this means very much, but one can just imagine how much mileage even a half-witted plaintiff's attorney can get with a bunch of "altered gun" hoo-ha in front of the media and jury. Their intent is to make that check have more zero's by painting you as a "trigger happy renegade" and your agency and entity as reckless should you be involved in a shooting on duty, so to a pool of uninformed jurors even a simple parts swap could be made out to be much more than it is. This type of stuff happens even on super-clean events, and ten times more if there's anything remotely controversial, so giving the plaintiff's mouthpiece more ammo to fire at you and your agency can really hurt a lot.

Risk management is probably the first class the city/county/state administrators take to limit the exposure of the entity from lawsuits and payouts. As an administrator and long-time rangemaster, if faced with a similar request I would say it needs to be kept in the caliber it came from the factory, or to buy a new 9mm GLOCK, rather than change the gun built, factory-marked and marketed as a .40 to a 9 mm for duty use.

For non-on/off duty plinking-target use, pop it in and fire away! The options that multiple calibers offer, especially in a "I can-t find 9mm to save my life" periods like this, are great.

Stay safe.

I put a lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel on a G33 that is very close to the G27. At first it works and it then it did not. I was started to get double feeds because instead if ejecting, the empty would slide off the ejector and remain held by the extractor and then attempt to feed a new round from the magazine to really royally jam up the pistol.

I got the old Lone Wolf barrel for my G35 (not the Alphawolf) changed no other parts and used 9mm mags (Magpul and ETS) and it's been fine.

OP, if you're looking to get one, get the cheapest barrel, you're not getting any more value with the $160 Storm Lake or Alphawolf barrels. Brownell's makes conversion barrels for Glock 22's and 23's, so check them out. Also, keep your eye out for used conversion barrels on places like gunbroker.

I have been told that the longer slide guns like G22 work fine with conversion units.

So quick recap, I finally got to the range. I shot my G22 with all the 40 parts. I shot 2 mags of 40 cal, on the first mag, the slide locked back after each round (I was using an OEM 15rd Glock 22 magazines with 10rds loaded in it). I swapped out my extended slide lock with the OEM one and the next magazine when just a little smoother, with 3 or 4 rnds between slide lock.

After this I took the gun apart, installed the 9mm conversion barrel and the 9mm extractor, and I also put back on the extended slide lock. Loaded up a KCI gen 2 G17 mag, and she ran like a top. About a hundred rounds later I had one nice reliable handgun. I had one stoppage, but I think I inadvertently lifted the slide lock with my thumbs, (I was not doing that with the 40cal shooting), but that's what my friend saw, I don't remember what type of stoppage it was.

I tested out a bunch of the KCI mags, and a chipotle as Jag 17 mags, all fed find. Now keep in mind this was at an indoor range with no speed reloads or dropping mags onto the ground or anything.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the pistol.

Now to get a Glock 21 and get the 10mm conversion barrel for that...

You are likely pushing up on the slide lock with your thumb.

Try shooting with your left hand and if slide doesn't lock, that will confirm you are pushing up on the slide lock.

Good to hear but changing out the extractor to 9mm is not necessary and will allow you to switch back and forth from 40S&W to 9mm and back to 40S&W much easier/faster.

When I am done shooting at the range with 9mm conversion barrels for my G22/23/27, I simply swap factory 40S&W barrels back in with factory 40S&W magazines and they are good to go for HD/SD duty. (BTW, I use MagPul Glock 17 magazines with my conversion barrels along with factory G17 magazines)
