I’m desiring an OWB holster I can carry my G19 G4 9mm x 19 Para automatic in the field. Should be reasonably concealable, enough for me to slip my shirt over it to hide from prying neighbors. It’ll only be used on my property when out doing chores and going in the woods and creek and stuff.

I’d desire some form of retention so it doesn’t slip out, catch on a twig, and blow my lungs out. Our Commander in Sleep says a 9mm Para can do such things.

I also would enjoy it were slim and close to the body. I don’t need or want some big clunky bulky police style Safariland. I’m wanting something slim and comfy. Maybe leather?

Thank you all and take care,

-JCF

My first thought for holsters is usually Simply Rugged. I've bought many of them, and not been disappointed with a single one.

The "Tribute" model has a retention thumb snap, and is available for the G19.

You could also ask @CraigC if he'd make something for you. I know he's made holsters for others here, but have to claim ignorance on how much of a business holster making is for him.

I'd probably look hard at Vedder and Galco, and a nod to one of the OWB We The People holsters.

Other than the concealment issue, my first reflex is a Bianchi UM-84, very sure retention, simple to operate, and available inexpensively, too.

I second the Glock Sport/Combat belt slide. They are cheap, and they work great. I mainly use it with a G26, but wouldn’t think twice about using it with my G22.
Don’t be too quick to dismiss Safariland. I found a plastic Safariland with their ALS system made for the G26 on eBay. It was used, like new, and pretty cheap, so I gave it a try. It came with a belt loop plate installed, but I have since installed a paddle. Very handy, secure little holster, and I have worn it with a loose fleece or shirt.
One of the great things about having a popular pistol like a Glock, a gun that has been popular for a decades, is that eBay has pages of used holster of every description, and deals can be found.

Simply Rugged Tribute already mentioned above https://www.simplyrugged.com/ecomme...oncealment-Holster.cfm?item_id=158&parent=669

High Noon Sky High https://highnoonholsters.com/leather-holsters/belt/extreme-duty/sky-high

Lobo offers most of their models with a thumb break https://lobogunleather.com

RCS Gear Perun seems like it would be a good kydex option and it is inexpensive https://rcsgear.com/perun-strongside-owb-holster

*** I would be hesitant to choose something like the Glock Sport holster since the bottom is open, and the muzzle will probably extend beyond the bottom of the holster making it a possibility you could bump the muzzle and eject the gun from the holster. Unless the G19 slide is short enough to not extend beyond the bottom of the holster.

The muzzle does extend below the holster with the Sport/Combat… But the holster fits pretty tightly, and has some retention. Takes a pretty good grasp to pull the pistol out. I’ve never heard of anyone “ejecting the pistol from the holster…”
Over at Glocktalk, this holster gets nearly universal positive reviews from those who use it. Plus, it’s so cheap, no great loss if you try it and don’t like it. I think I paid $12 or $15 for mine.

$10.99 right now at Midway. These things are just plain silly good. Cut the belt loop opening to whatever size you need. The retention is great and they are way tougher than you would think.

I bought one of those Glock holster. It's good for the money (because it's cheap), but overall I wasn't impressed. Kinda tricky to reholster the gun when the holster is flexed around my hip. And I don't like that the muzzle and front sight are so exposed.

You’re post reminded me that it’s ambidextrous!:)

I am a fan of the Safariland ALS holsters. That is what I use on my motorcycle. It is an active retention holster. There is a button, that is positioned near the thumb, that must be depressed to draw the pistol. My jacket can cover it and I have no fear of it falling out.

It's not leather, and the Velcro is noisy, but I sure like the Barsony brand flap holster I carry my Glock 44 (same size as my Glock 19) in when I'm bumming around in the hills, fishing, and lately, slaying ground squirrels on our friend's ranch.
Being a flap holster, it protects my little Glock from the elements and retains it very well. And it would be almost impossible for a twig to get caught on the well covered trigger - of course my Glock 44 is "only" a .22LR, so it wouldn't "blow my lungs out" anyway.;)
The only thing is, like I said - the Velcro that holds the flap closed is noisy. It sometimes frightens ground squirrels when I "rip" it open, and they jump back down in their holes before I can shoot. o_O

I have one of these https://epsaddlery.com/product/high-slide/ for a Government size 1911 (like the gun in the picture). I have hit the muzzle of the gun on the arm of a chair on multiple occasions while sitting down. I was able to catch the gun each time with my elbow. These all happened in my own home. Due to these instances, I seldom wear this holster anymore.

I would not wear such a holster in the field due to the possibility that I could bang the muzzle while climbing over something and not realize the gun had popped out.

These exposed muzzle holsters are designed for use on the range, where protection and security of the gun are at a minimum. They are not designed for concealed carry or field use.

Thank you, gang.

The cheap Glock plastic job seems to have mixed reviews. Can anyone elaborate further?

I use the cheap Glock holster as my daily carry 17 hours a day, at work and on weekends for the last 6 months at least. I’ve never had the gun come loose or come out of the holster and I’m a VERY active person. I go from seated to standing easily over 100 times a day at work, I run around doing all kinds of drills at the range, never a problem. I draw and re holster at least 30 times per range session with zero problems. I’m a huge fan because I have the typical box of holsters and every one of them had something I didn’t like. The Glock holster is SO simple and durable, I never have to look for the next “better” holster. The holster is softer and more flexible than kydex but also tougher. I’ve broken two kydex holsters before I found the Glock.

Interesting.

Do you think for my purposes that if I purchased one that I would be pleased?

I can do something for a Glock. I got another one this year after a 15yr hiatus, so I can do any of the 17/19/26/34 guns. It would be similar to one of these. Except I'd come up higher over the triggerguard.

Thank you all. Based on several recommendations I decided to try the Glock Combat Sport:

And the Glock magazine pouch:

I’m very pleased so far. It is remarkable how lightweight and comfortable the holster is, and it “clicks” in solidly. It tucks nicely in to the body but doesn’t rub on my side. I have not found reholstering an issue so far. I appreciate how well the triggerguard is covered, and cut the loops to fit my Kore 1.5” gun belt.

The magazine pouch is nice too. Retention seems ideal. I’ve been wearing this setup all day and don’t even know the G19 is there honestly.

Thank you all. I believe this will do very well.

Too late I guess but: I go reliable and retention first. Live and die by Safariland ALS. For common guns, like M9 and Glock, can often even get one cheap and used from certain surplus stores, and eBay and so on. Worth every penny for retention and speed. Retained so much I gave all my retention lanyards to the wife for use on her kayak, and quick enough to get the gun out I go to classes with the locks fully engaged.

Worn not dropped, up at the belt, and esp if you don't do the QLS (a quick detach system, neat and useful for me) it can be set to ride pretty close to the body, and normal slightly loose jackets I wear outdoors fit fine over it, functionally conceal. I know several police who use it as a not really concealed but not exactly overt like this also.

I agree, but they stick out so much. Not so comfy for me. I’ve got an ALS duty holster. Looks too obvious with a T shirt draped over them. Not worried about a gun grab when on my property or in the woods. More worried about the stupid dogs around here or a rabid coon. Besides, it’s pretty nicely concealed under my shirts. Just wanting to keep it away from prying eyes. Had some new neighbors move in. They’re a bunch of questionables to say the least.

Ah, sorry, missed "shirt" and had somehow internalized "jacket." Maybe because most people wear more than me esp of my age :)

I live by t-shirt and shorts around the house/town until too cold for shorts. IWB most of the time because for my body type at least I can't conceal in that with any belt holster. Luckily I've gotten things sorted so can do any level of work at all with the IWB but that's it.

Agree that it's mostly no one's business if I am armed or not, so solid plan.
