Glock Field Holster?

I'd probably look hard at Vedder and Galco, and a nod to one of the OWB We The People holsters.

Other than the concealment issue, my first reflex is a Bianchi UM-84, very sure retention, simple to operate, and available inexpensively, too.

I really like my Vedder gear and also have Upper Hand holsters. They are nice as well.

I tend to think a field holster is mutually exclusive to anything “concealable” but either way I would recommend an OWB style.

I personally use a Galco Combat Master for my G21 for use in the field. I define “field use” as walking the hunting property or doing some work outside the house or the like as you do as well. A long over garment will still allow reasonable concealment.

I’m desiring an OWB holster.....

I saw that you went with the Glock holster but thought I'd mention that I have been using a Carrylok for my Glock for years. I have carried it in the field hunting through everything from mountains to plains and it has never failed to keep the sidearm securely in place and readily available. The Safariland web site has them.

I think everyone, eventually, ends up with a collection of holsters!!

Another vote for the Glock Sport/Combat holster. I have a ton of different holster and still use my S/C holsters quite a bit. Back in the early 90's, the S/C was pretty high tech. You could get a blister pack from Glock that had the S/C holster, mag pouch, and +2 17 mag for about 25 bucks. I still have my original S/C, mag pouch, and +2 mag and all are still in perfect working order. I carried my 17 for years in this holster while I was at work. When it was time to go home I simply untucked my shirt and none were the wiser. I have also used this holster extensively while ATVing, hunting, and hiking. They gun stays secure and tight to the body. It does expose the bottom of your slide/fame, does not allow the use of a light, and can be pretty tight at first. Some folks recommend using the 20/21 size to ease the draw, but I like the retention aspect of the 17 sized holster. If you appreciate simplicity at its finest, economy paired with value, and beauty defined by the beholder, then this holster is great.

As a matter of fact, I have more than one and I would be happy to send you one for free. If you want to give one a try, shoot me a PM.

Here's a real-life experience with the cheap Glock holster. I took a defensive handgun class with a G26 in one of those holsters. We did a variation of the back-to-back Tueller Drill where the assailant (non-shooter) had a Sharpie as a knife simulation and had to run to a life-size silhouette and slash it with the Sharpie before the defender (shooter) could draw and fire at his own target. I was the assailant. Just as I got up to speed, I tripped on a divot in the ground and was headed for a full-speed face-plant. Instinctively, I brought up my hands, tucked my head in, and did a forward roll. When I came upright again, my G26 was still snug in that cheap Glock holster. I'd call that pretty good retention.

I failed the drill -- didn't mark my target at all, and would have been shot by the defender. But I saved my face, and didn't lose my pistol. I call that a pretend loss and two real-life wins.
