I received a replacement slide from Ruger last week, and while inspecting it I noticed the firing pin is noticeably longer than the older one. It's so much longer that pushing forward on the exposed rear of the firing pin without depressing the firing pin block allows the tip of the pin to slightly protrude through the firing pin hole on the breach face. This seems like a safety issue to me. I contacted Ruger and the technician I spoke with confirmed this to abnormal, and sent me new slide. I received the new slide today and it's exactly the same. Anybody know what's going on? I realize the pics below are crappy, but they were the best I could do at the moment, hopefully they illustrate well enough.

Here is a picture pushing on the rear of the pin without depressing the firing pin block. The tip of the pin slightly protrudes through the hole (crappy photo):

Here is a pic pushing on the rear of the pin while simultaneously depressing the firing pin block, allowing the pin to move all the way forward. Notice how far it extends past the breach face:

My test for firing pins although primitive has worked for 30+ years. If you can fire a number 2 pencil out of the barrell "erasor facing the firing pin", and the pencil flys out of the gun, it is more than likelly fine. I just took my lc9 apart to instal the Galloway/RTK short stroke trigger. I would have taken a pic had I seen your dillema. You may have a burr in the channel, did you remove and check the firing pin?

My concern was not if the firing pin will work when I want it to, it's that it may work when I don't want it to.
