got some cash thats burning a hole in my pocket for a new .45. It's down to two...the Glock G4 21 or the HK USP 45. They both feel good in my hand and I've shot both and liked both. Here's the kicker...the price. Because I'm LE, I can get the Glock for 469.00 with 3 high cap mags. The HK from Bud's (the cheapest I could find it for) is 760.00 with 2 high cap mags. So the HK with three mags would be around 810.00. Thats a difference of 350.00 +/-. I carry a Glock 22 for duty, a 27 as a BUG, and have a 17 for the home so Glocks are common around the house.

So, long story short, I'm kind of bored with the Glocks. Not that they are bad weapons (i've never had one fail), it just gets boring shooting basically the same weapon over and over (just different recoils). I tried the FNP, XD, and the S&W. The FNP felt like a brick, I didnt like the XD's grip, and I've always had problems with Smith's autos (and promised myself never to own a Smith again).

Also, if I get the Glock, i can carry it for duty. The HK I can't. For the price difference I can get another Glock...almost.

What do you guys think?

Glock all day long. HK's are nice, but I'm sorry they are overpriced IMO. If you are getting bored then get a G20SF.

Pretty much agree.

I can understand getting bored with "more of the same," and there is nothing wrong with a high-quality, high-dollar pistol of course, but the HK is just another plastic frame DA service pistol -- what is there to be excited about (especially given the above linked comparison)?

I'm just having a hard time justifying a $350 difference...the hk shot a little better, but 350 better? Nope

I dont see much of adifference between gen3 or gen4 except the grip and the recoil spring

Glock 21 Gen4 is unproven. There's your answer. No matter how the Glock die-hards want to spin it, the Gen4 21 is unproven.

Yep. The HK haters will never cease to come up with reasons why HKs shouldn't be purchased. Price is usually brought up immediately, and then the facts of what an HK pistol offers are usually ignored from there on out.

The USP45f is a solid performer. You get a steel reinforced polymer frame with no voids from the company who brought you the very first centerfire polymer pistol. You get a cold hammer forged barrel and no less than 8 different firing control arrangements. Heck, even the Variant 1 gives you the option of running it in DA/SA mode or going cocked and locked.

The USP45f is arguably the best "fuller" capacity .45 production pistol on the market.

I carry the 19 for duty, have several 21s, a 17, 22, 24, and 36. Yes, predictable can be boring but life-saving is the goal for these tools. Yes?

The USP .45s have been very accurate and utterly reliable for me. It's a very soft shooting gun. Some of my best ever off hand groups at 50 yards were shot with the USP .45 and jacketed SWC handloads. The 21 I owned didn't do well at 50 yards and would choke on SWC's unless I used a 10 round magazine. The USP would handle hotter loads including .45 Super.

The 21 is a good combat gun, faster to fire, faster trigger reset, less muzzle rise and good reliability (but not perfect IME).

Best range/hobby gun? USP for sure.

Best CQC gun? probably the 21.

I'm not into DA/SA triggers.

That's what I'm saying though...USPs aren't only available in a forced DA/SA configuration. There's LEM, Light LEM, DAO, and Variant 9 which has the decoker disabled, promoting use as strictly cocked and locked in SA mode. For that matter, almost all USPs with a control lever can be carried C&L in SA mode.

With Glock, you get what you get, and you can only change the pull weight.

I've been carrying a G26 everyday for the last 7 years. It's a good tool, but the USP really is more refined and it offers users many more options.

Yeah, the DA pull is not the USP's strong point, but as stated, cocked and locked is no problem with the variant 1 and it's an easy do it yourself switch to variant 9, eliminating the de-cocker.

As a Glock guy, I say go HK if you are bored with Glocks. I understand the issue. I almost decided to replace all my Glocks with Rugers the other day, mostly because I was bored and wanted something different. It never hurts to branch out. Best idea is see if you can shoot both before you make a decision.

I couldn't be happier with my GenIII 21SF. I really like my GenIV 22 also. But i'm also a big HK fan and consider them to be top of the line. For concealed carry nothing beats the P2000sk. I believe the HK45 has a somewhat slimmer profile than the Glock21 so for concealed carry it has an advantage. My biggest gripe though about the HK45 is the lower mag capacity. Its a great gun but i'd prefer the 12 round magazine of a USP or the 13 rounder of the glock. However, if it's primarily a range or collector gun i think the HK45 will be the most enjoyable to shoot.

Just a thought, if you have money to spend consider a red dot optic for your Glock 22. I mounted trijicon red dot on my Glock 21 and was amazed by how it improved by shooting.
