do any of you use the thinner front sight with the factory Glock rear sight? Dawson offers two front sight widths: a thicker one intended for use with the stock glock rear, and a thinner one intended for use with heinie or other rear sights. I'm wondering if anyone's tried the thinner front with stock rear.
thanks

Free bump for you as I was wondering the same thing and came here to post. I have a G21 that I wanted to put a Dawson F/O on and wanted some opinions.

I have used a thinner front sight blade on a Glock 19 as well as on a Sig 226 and 1911.

The thinner front sight blade allows faster sight alignment for accurate shooting when shooting quickly, because of the amount of light admitted into the rear notch. This is a bit offset by the white outline around to notch of the stock Glock sight...it fools the eye into thinking it is reading a barcode (too busy)

Actually the stock glock front sight is pretty fat I think around .140". Even if you go with a .125" versus the .100" width it would be an improvement. I personally like plain black rear sights on pistols with fiber optic fronts. The extra dots and bars on rear sights are just a distraction to me.

I feel the same... I particularly dislike the 3-dots. But rather than replace the rear I figure I can just magic marker the white U out and use the stock one, as long as the front is nice and bright. Thanks guys...

General rule is: narrow front or wide rear notch enhances speed, narrow notch or wide front enhances accuracy.

Since I mostly shoot steel plates, I use the Dawson narrow fiber optic front sights.

+1 to anything but plain black on the rear sight being a counterproductive distraction.

That is what I am doing to a S&W M&P9 I just got home. Not only are the rear dots distracting because of their color, they are not proportioned incorrectly to match to size of the front dot in perspective

i didn't notice they were any faster to pick up either. didn't care for them.
It becomes more apparent as you speed gets ~ 4 shots per second...and you start seeing your sights, rather than looking at them

A good combination is to pair the Dawson with a Warren or 10-8 rear sight with the "U" notch

I use black epoxy "appliance" paint and make the surface matte by touching it before its completely dry to break the gloss.

Change the rear out. It's super easy on Glocks. My Warren hammered right in after draging it across a file only a few times. I used a vice and steel punch with some tape to protect the sight. I did leave a little moon shaped mark in the side of the sight.......So what.

Use the thinnest Dawson you can find. The thinnest they had for Glock last I checked was .110". That's perfect.

I use a Fiber optic .110" Dawson front and a Warren Sevigny Comp plain black rear with a .150" notch. I actually picked up accuracy with the thinner front sight. Obviously i picked up a ton of speed compared to the stock sights.

I am resurrecting this thread. I was thinking about installing some Dawson precision f/o front sights and warren tactical all black rear sights on a few glocks. Particularly a 19, 22, 23' and a 21. I wanted to know if anyone else is still running a similar setup or have you changed since July 09, 2011?

Nope. Still the best setup out there.

Warren Sevigny comp, plain black rear, day time or night time. .150" wide notch IIRC.

Dawson front fiberoptic .105-.115" in width for day time.
Dawson front night sight .125" wide for night use.

Since you asked... I ordered the recommended warren combo and the sight picture is great but it hits like a foot high at 15 yards out of my G19 with OEM and LW barrels and multiple loads. Nobody has been able to figure out why. I still need to order a taller front replacement. I can't hit anything with it as is.

EDITED: WASN'T A DAWSON FRONT; IT WAS A WARREN TACTICAL F/R SET.

Call Dawson, if they recommended the sight set or front sight height, they should change out the front on their dime. Really good company to do business with.
