I tried to hate Glocks for many years before I knew how they worked and actually shot them much. I bad mouthed them when I didnt know what I was talking about, what an arse I was. Then I bought a 10mm Glock because the 10mm selection is so limited. I now own five Glocks.

Love my CZ's, but also really like Glock 9mm's. I would like to see a Glock with a manual safety. Makes me feel good, and that's what important.....to me anyway.

If I had $$$ I'd get H&K USP or SiG personally

Glock seems to be too easy to set off accidentally.

They dont just "SET OFF" by themselves.
SAFETY is between the ears.

This is one of the nice things (currently) in most of the country. You can buy what is comfortable for you. (OK some guns not allowed in Calif, Mass, other states) (guess the companys have not paid the requiset BRIBES.... Safe for LEO use but not public) :(
I do find it slightly funny that I was uncomfortable with 1911 cocked/locked but no problems with Glock in same condition. The only Glock that I don't have that was is bedside G21. Figure with three doors/alarm (only two of doors locked but third is NOISY) I should have time to rack slide (and hopefully put on BP vest and grab AR as primary.)
I carry G19 or G26 condition one with no worries.
Important thing is find what is comfortable for you and practice with it.
I still like to start beginners with a 38 revolver and then go to .22 semi auto.

I think that is because the Glock isnt a true single action, it is more of a double action than a single action because just letting go of the striker without pulling the trigger will not fire the gun. The trigger pull has to finish compressing the spring before the striker can slam forward hard enough to pop the primer.

As I have stated before, I like Glock but love 1911A1s.

Ditto. I have two Glocks and really like them. They are utterly reliable and that's important because I'm not obsessive about my guns (they don't get cleaned/maintained as often as they probably should). That could all change now. I just bought a Kimber CDP and I've seen the light. It's extremely fun to shoot and easier to conceal. I like them both but love the 1911 trigger. Double taps become triple, quadruple taps. Just because. I feel myself getting obsessive..

In my neck of the woods (southeast Texas) I have noticed a line in the sand. Those who love Glocks and those who dont. It seems to me to be a preference and an age thing. Old timers seem to go 1911 or Hi-Powers and youngsters like plastic(or poly or synthetic). I have no problem with Glocks, they seem to be a well made firearm. But I just dont like em for some reason. I am not opposed to plastic. I prefer Steyrs myself (maybe cuz of manual saftey and sights) and everyone and everyone and thier dog has a Glock.
What are your thoughts? I am interested what the rest of the country has to say.

WOW...I'm an old guy now!

Seriously, I own a bunch of 1911's and a few Hi Powers. I love them like my children, and I carried one or the other for YEARS...but I carry a Glock now, and have for some time.

I like that the Glock is lighter, has no safety to dick with (Keep Your Booger Hook Off The Bang Switch), and them bullets tend to go right where that front sight is pointed!

I like the 1911 for a lot of the reasons already stated - feel, accuracy, war-proven dependability and did I mention feel?

I thought I liked my Beretta 92F until I shot a 1911. I've handled several Glocks and shot a few. I never had a problem with one, they just don't have that something extra the 1911 offers. Maybe it's just that I don't shoot Glocks as accurately as other guns???

About a box of ammo into my first 1911 shooting session, I shot a 1 ragged hole group at 15 yards. That pretty much sold me right there.

As others have said - find something you like and fills your needs.

One word of caution - don't believe the drivel you read on the internet about a lack of 1911 reliability. The guns I see in IDPA competition run great - better than many of the other brands mentioned in this thread.

Are you aware that glocks aren't DA as glock claims? In case of misfire you'll have to cock the slide or eject the bullet a feed a new one altogether. For self-defense DA/SA misconception proved fatal a few times.

Actually...glock claims "Safe Action". Unique to glock. Nowhere have they claimed DA or SA.

I've owned several dozen Glocks in the past twenty years, and have NEVER had one fail to feed/fire. Never. Not once.

WOW, that's a pretty darn good track record--did you ever shoot any of 'em?
:D

I've had one malf each in a G19 and a G21. My G20 and G30 have not malf'd YET. But, this was with my reloads which number up in the thousands through each gun (the 20 and 30 have not been shot as much).

That being said, my favorites are my Glocks and Sigs as far as centerfire semi autos are concerned.

Lived in Texas all my life (except for time playing for Uncle Sugar), and I haven't had a pair of shiny spurs or big buckle since I quit wanting to grow up to Roy Rogers.

Seriously, I like my Glock 22 for everyday wear. It's not so heavy as to pull my pants down, easy to conceal, and shoots every bit as good as I do. However, it will never shoot as well, or feel as good in my hand as my Colt/Wilson 1911.

Just my 2 cents.

I was going to read through the 3 pages, but I'm short on time, so I'll just throw my 2 cents right in the pot :D

I like Glocks. Great guns, shoot nice, all of that. Friend of mine has one, a Glock 34 (9mm).

That being said, I would not trade my Springfield Armory XD9 for a Glock. I prefer mine over my buddy's Glock. Which is why I got it instead of a Glock.

Try to avoid the "fanboy" comments (nothing but glock, i heart glock, nothing beats glock, etc.) If you are looking to buy a gun, go to a range and test fire a few pistols. See how you like the grip, how they fire, everything.

We can tell ya all day long until we're blue in the face about how one brand is better than the other, but in the end, it's up to what you yourself like best.
