Besides the color, are they any durability or reliability issues between Glock black magazine followers and the newer Gen. 5 orange followers? What's the difference, if any, besides color?

People get really caught up with Glock magazine followers, but they all seem to work good for me. The color change seems to stem from the FBI contract they won that specified, "The follower shall move freely in the magazine body without binding and shall position each round for positive feeding. It is preferred the follower be a high visibility color (orange, red, yellow, etc.)."

I like the orange followers and think they make it much to establish a empty gun/magazine as well as show clear at the range or during a class. Having said that I have some 30 year old Glock magazines that are still in working order.

Gosh. The FaBI's really are morons. They can't tell the difference between a brass or nickel round, and a flat black empty magazine?

This popped up with shotguns a while back. High vis followers. But there's nothing more high vis than brass on my buckshot.

I think the Gen 5 orange mags may have compatability issues with earlier Glocks. Hopefully that's the point of the orange follower. Then again, if the mag is loaded, you wouldn't be able to tell anyways. Lol. Bizarre world.

- Rhetorical Question?

Color me a moron I guess. I see no draw back to a orange follower. Since my son has shown an interest in learning about handguns, we have been spending some time on the Glocks. Using our newer Glock magazines or Magpul magazines with a contrasting follower makes it easier for me to establish the condition of his pistol. Not a big deal, but it is much easier especially from a distance. If it was a giant loaded chamber indicator I would get it, but the follower is probably the least obtrusive way to show clear with a slide locked back, excepting a removed magazine.

Only issues are with the 19X. They work with all previous gen pistols. They have a longer front lip that gets caught on the G19x frame only. I been rocking the new mags in a gen 3 for a while now.

I’ve shot the FDE Glock 19X mags and OEM orange-follower mags that came with my Glock 45 in the 45, 19,17, 34 and 17L.

The FDE ones occasionally won’t lock the slide back on an empty mag, other than that they’ve been as reliable as the other generation mags are.

Stay safe
