im going to buy a glock on their first responder deal and was looking at a 19 or a 23. The question is gen 3 or gen 4. I am left handed but have no problem working right handed weapons. 20 years in the army with m9s! the one big thing is i have a gen 3 advantage arms .22 conversion i got for a really really good deal. Is the gen 4 that much better to give that up?
Thanks
Scotty

If you are 100% happy with the gen 3 grip size then I see no reason to go for the gen 4. My gen 4 with no strap on it feels absolutely awesome in my hand and it reflects very well in my shooting. I'm considering selling my gen 2 19 to get a gen 4 because of how it feels.

FWIW, I also have a 29 and that thing is HUGE in my hand and for some reason I also shoot it very well.

+1 to the G29 Gen3. My most accurate (for me) semi auto pistol.

From what I can tell the exterior difference between the two are: Gen4 has a smaller grip but can be made larger, switchable mag release that is larger, and a different pattern on the grip. I cant tell a difference in how they function other than having to adjust my grip when switching between the two. If you can run the third gen then get it. If the grip is too large or you are looking for somthing that is more southpaw friendly then get the gen4.

I'd stick with the Gen 3. All my Glocks were Gen 3 except a G17 Gen 2 I'd had for years. I finally sold it and got a Gen 3 model 17, for the rail, and it shoots fine. The finger grooves are natural to me now. I've EDC'd a G23 for a couple years and it's a good shooter. It's a choice between the 9mm or 40 for you, the two pistols are basically the same.

Take a trip to the LGS and try the grip on the Gen 4. I shoot my G34 Gen4 without an insert. It feels great in my hands. I have medium size hands that are rather "meaty", so I don't feel comfortable with all double stack handguns. I know I can hold on to the Glock with wet and sweaty hands and not worry.
