Anybody ever order these from the Glock-shop?????Can you use the follower and spring froma 10 rd in a 17 rd and make a high-cap??is it legal and do they feed OK????A buddy has done it and says his works fine...what do you guys think???I just HATE the idea of paying $100 for a hi-cap mag.....

It is illegal to build a new high-capacity magazine using a replacement mag tube. If I purchased one with the intent of rebuilding a preban magazine I would keep the worn body as proof that I rebuilt a preban. Besides, the replacement mag tubes I have seen going around are Sherer and their feed lips are more often not, not exactly in spec and Sherer's plastic is crappy.

Suck it up and buy the genuine pre-ban magazines. Prices will continue to come down for a few more months, but make sure you purchase them before the election season kicks into full swing. I expect speculators to drive prices back up again on fears that the AWB will be renewed. I have enough Glock 17 full caps to keep me happy, though I would like to grab a few Glock 20 and 19 full caps.

It's perfectly legal to buy and/or possess all of the individual pieces to repair a factory high-cap mag.

Using the parts to build a high-cap mag is illegal.

If it's shipped in pieces, you're buying "replacement parts". What you do with those parts is up to you. I was merely offering other options.

If you'd rather pay $150 for something you can buy elsewhere for $30, that's your choice. I know where I'd spend my money though....;)

We know where you'll be spending your money when you get caught building hi-cap magazines.

First you'll spend it on a good attorney.
Then you'll spend what's left in the prison commissary.

Stasher1, if you look at those glock mags you are refering to, the bodies say "restricted for the USA". Having those mags would be like asking "can you arrest me please?". Mark

I once bought some full-cap mags at an area gunshop. Further inspection showed very suspicious marks along the tube where the 'LEO Only' stamping would usually be located.

I took it back and demanded a refund. To their credit, my money was immediately refunded.

re: replacement bodies

I recently got a good deal on a couple pre ban ProMag glock magazines. I'd like to replace the semi-functional bodies with something that works.

Can anyone recommend a quality replacement body? I am a bit suspicious of the Scherer product. Thanks

The only quality Glock tubes are Glock tubes, and they don't sell 'em. It's not illegal to import pre-bans, but you have to jump through a lot of hoops, such as having written proof that they're pre-bans and getting permission, via Form 6, from BATFE.

Quality G17 pre-bans can be had for around $50 each from several internet sources.

The followers and springs have nothing to do with the mags' capacity. The internal volume of the post-ban mags is restricted by ribs in the sidewalls.

Can you show me one single case where an individual was caught, tried and convicted of building high-cap mags from post-ban parts? I'm not talking about somebody's cousin's neighbor's friend, I want to see/hear actual first-hand knowledge and/or documented proof.

If you're that worried about it, don't do it. It's just that simple. ;)

The site listed shows original and high capacity magazines and clearly states that it has the verbage of the post-ban magazine. I don't know that anyone has been prosecuted for possessing such magazines when not allowed to, but it is a federal violation and I do not care to be the test case.

In any event, the original poster received an answer and stated his decision.

The thread has served its purpose and the drift is into an area that is unlawful.

We all agree that the ban is ridiculously and serves no purpose other than to make anti-gunners "feel good," but no use providing information that they could use to make us look like wanton criminals to anyone looking in. It's been my experience and observation that the vast majority within the shooting community are decent, honest folks.
