I have a Glock 19 (gen 3) and like it. I want to learn more about smithing and hope to trick this one out. In case anyone feels like they want to warn me against modifying it (a glock is already perfect, mods can reduce reliability), I have two G19s and won't mess with the other one. This is for fun and learning. I also like the look of stainless and I live in an area where we get rust (I'm near the ocean) so there's a case to be made for stainless parts.

Anyone tried lone wolf stainless slides? I hear they are pretty much a drop in, and I think they look pretty sweet. Any feedback or alternative suggestions are appreciated.

I was also looking at EFK fire dragon barrels. Any feedback?

If you do put some mods on it I would love to see pictures the only way to make a glock useful is with alot of mods :neener: [emoji12]
But I have an efk threaded barrel for my .40 xdm and have never had a problem with it in any way

SS would be fine if you melonited it. But bare, it's not any better than a stock Glock vs the sea.

I hear ya. I think the scenario in on spots where the finish rubs off and there's ambient salty moisture we get rust on steel but not stainless.

Eventually I am going to send my Glock 19 slide to Robar for their NP3 finish. Ever since I saw the movie Bad Boys I have wanted a stainless type Glock slide. As far as stainless parts and going away from OEM here is my experience. The more things you change from OEM the more likely you are to have problems. I worked on a customer gun that had an aftermarket frame from one company, an aftermarket slide from another, a trigger from a third... It didn't work the way it was supposed to. As soon as I put the stock parts back in and a factory frame, it worked fine. YMMV.

Was the performance any different with the barrel?

I can not tell a difference in the accuracy as they are both match grade barrels. However I have not tested them side by side from a bench. The only two differences that I have noticed are that it I can use the suppressor with it and it is easier to clean than the factory barrel. I would like to do a accuracy comparison one day as soon as I get the chance, I will make a post about it when I do.

Seems really expensive for what amounts to a mostly cosmetic upgrade. I also don't think stainless is going to resist rust and better than the melonited/tennifer treated Glock factory parts. I'm not sure if you realize this, but the black coating is not the tennifer/melonite. Tennifer and melonite are treatments, not coatings. They don't wear off without removing the surface of the treated steel. But go for it if you want. It is easily reversible, and you can sell the slide and barrel and just put the factory parts back on it if you get tired of it.

Yeah I hate to get into a debate about which is better. For me I like the SS but understand that's personal preference. My feeling about a technical comparison is that wear can rub off the surface of both the melonite or the SS, the former will then be more susceptible to rust than the latter. But yeah, it's mostly just cosmetic and personal preference.

I was mostly hoping for feedback on that slide/barrel because this is mostly a fun and educational project.
