I would not take 1911 for free for sd after one i had by colt that repeatedly broke down, and finally the hammer even went free as auto fire!

Ah, burned by the lackluster quality control of Colt as it swirled down the tubes in the mid to late 90's.

Now I see where your plastic admiration came from.

Oh, looks like the Glock's losing by almost half.

"Glock, only because I have 1 Glock and 0 1911s."

This is the problem with every poll. Most of us are too childish to be honest. What is worse is if you paid a lot of money for something.

I have 4 1911's 3", 4", & 5". I have 2 Glocks a 19 & 26, I'll most likely get a 17 too.

I think that each is best of breed.

In a 9mm polymer frame I'll take a Glock. In a .45 It's a 1911, Kimber, Springfield, Colt. In a .40 it's a Sig or HK and in 357 & .44 mag I'll go S&W Revolver, Rugers are great too. .38 it's a j-frame 442 or 642, and any .22 is fine.

The argument is a game of Tic-tac-toe, Cat's game, NO winner.

I only voted for Glock because I have had jams with my 1911's not one with my Glocks.

Glock~reliable, light, durable, cost efficient.

1911~less reliable, less durable, expensive.

Perhaps next we could have a poll about wich is better, A Mac Truck or a corvette? Or George Forman Vs. Anti-Lock breaks?

They are both excellent pistols, just for different reasones.

I've got both in my safe. I like them both for different reasons. I like the look, feel, trigger and accuracy of the 1911 over the Glock, I prefer the Glock for reliability. That said, there's no question associated with the poll. By what criteria are we judging these two fine weapons? Melting point?

Just bought another M1911 yesterday. Haven't bought a Glock in at least 10 years.

More does not equal better.

Example:

Budweiser vs. Guinness

Budweiser outsells Guinness by a wide margin so it will get more votes, but the better beer is Guinness.

The better hand gun is Glock.

Define "reliable" for me please, because my friends and I thought glocks were the most reliable gun in case of emergency until one day some stupid punk decided to pressure my friend into giving him his wallet. Under pressure, my friend reached for his glock 19 instead of his wallet and limp-wristed it because of adrenaline(this is a guy who shoots good 2-3 inch groups at 25ft with ease so hitting this punk who was only 5ft away wouldnt have been a problem). The gun jams and the punk stabs my friend 6 times and runs for it. After being in ICU for 3 weeks and recovering for another 2, we decided to hit the range and do a little test. He limp-wrist his 1911 with no failures what so ever. The glock 19 on the other hand? Jammed every single shot limp-wristed. We shoot every week and the glock has never had a problem feeding and our 1911s would jam every now and then(very rare it happens though), but when it comes down to it... the 1911 wins for RELIABILITY( in my eyes, being reliable enough to work even when you accidentally limp wrist it, because it does happen now matter how good you think you are). I hate to say it, but if its an experience like that for glock-lovers to understand... I hope you learn someway because I used to be like you guys also.

Shooting any brand of semi-auto handgun with a poor grip and/or a limp wrist is not recommended.

OUCH! 55 - 21.

If this were a football game, it'd be described by sports casters as "a slaughterhouse!"

If this were a basketball game, the coach would be throwing steel chairs around like it was a Wrestlemania hardcore championship match! "Are you guys ASLEEP?"

That is all. :)

There must be a lot of older guys voting here. This poll is too lopsided. Old timers hate to give up the old design for the new.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but while I have no issues with carrying a gun with a 5.5 pound trigger and a trigger safety, I am concerned about carrying a 1911 cocked and locked. I'm sure I could get used to it, but I'm used to Glocks already, so they get my vote pretty much by default.

It's not like this is going to make any difference. If I got a nice 1911 I'm sure I would like it, so the results are essentially meaningless to me (and probably everyone else as well).

Maybe. Then again I'm 26 and I shoot 1911s. Must be alot of old timers on the LAPD SWAT team, LAPD SIS, MEUs, and FBI HRT just to name a few.
