Which of these 3 makes do you prefer and why?

I picked these 3 all seem in the 500 buck range and all seem to be well liked

I've only handled glocks and XDs, no S&W's.

B/w those 2, i prefer the grip angle of the XD (glock's is a little too extreme for me) and the added grip safety.

I have owned 3 total (2 currently, traded the 3rd) and haven't had a single problem with over 5K rounds b/w them.

I like all three quite well. The grip angle on the XD and M&P lines is more comfortable for me than that of the Glock line. I like how easy Glocks are to work on; and how cheap and readily available parts and magazines are for them. All three are great pistols, and it really comes down to which one each person shoots best, and which on fits his or her hands best.

My XD-45c fits my hand so perfectly that it points as naturally as my own finger. Try lowering a gun and looking away from the target direction. Lift the gun blindly to the approximate point of aim then look over and see if the front sight is lined up level with the back or pointed way up or down or offsides. Try this in several positions. The one that points most naturally for you is what you should shoot best.
Another test is firing, whether dry fire or with rounds, and see if finger movement, hand flexing, etc. is pulling you off aim and making you miss.
In my case, with hands of about average, medium size the XD fits perfectly. It doesn't seem to want to pull off-target from squeezing off a shot. I can shoot this better than any other pistol in any caliber. Many others also find it good. There is a new variation called XDM with three different backstraps and when the 45 version comes out(around Christmas according to XD Forum) I'll consider adding one or not. Can't think what it could do better for me than what I have now.
Customer service is good. Lifetime warranty fully supported. Many variations in size, caliber even color.
It's MY GUN! I really love this thing. Try renting one at a range.:D

I own all three and don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
My personal order of preference is:
M&P
XD
Glock

But once again I love all of them.

this has been done to death....many times.

but, all of them are great guns.

I have an M&P, and i love it. I shoot it well, it's comfortable, and just feels natural to me to hold.
I don't shoot glocks too great.
Haven't shot an XD yet, but they feel great in hand.

I like the M&P myself. Friend of mine I went to the range with has both an M&P 9mm and an XD 9mm. I shot the M&P alot more accurately than the XD.

By all accounts, the XD is a good gun. I just HATE the way it looks. The XDM looks much better.

The first S&W M&P I held felt AWFUL in my hand. I recently picked up another and it felt much better. Must have been a different backstrap installed.

I'll stick with my Glock 19 and Glock 22 for which I recently purchased cut rifling barrels so that I can shoot lead bullet reloads.

i love the xd, now all teh above are great but the xd's are my go to guns, for carry, hd, and competetion even. i have a service model which will surpass 8k this comming week when i go to 4 days of training in tenn, it is already at over 6k now. i have a sc model that i use for carry in the colder weather months, it has less rds but has been 100% reliable and fun to carry and shoot.

i prefer the xd because of the better ergos in my opinon over the glock. the m&p's ergos are really nice as well though. when i got my xd there were no m&p's and i am happy with the xd so i don't need or even want an m&p or a glock. to me there are several advantages for me personally of the xd over the glock, i won't get into that here as i have done so many times in the past. I will just say that there is no other gun that i shoot better with or enjoy shooting more than my xd service model .

The XD 45 (in fact all my XD's) my hand fits like a glove and it seems so natural to hold, aim and fire, for me its minimal effort. Also,I compared holster pulls with my XD 45 and a Glock 30,both seemed the same, yet the XD had 'better gripping' for my hand.

Ihave the m&p 45 and like it alot. of the three glock went out 1st. grip/npoa didn't wrok for me. really close between the xd and mp. mp won felt better and poa/poi was real good especialy for someone who shakes like a leaf in a wind storm. ajb

don't attack the OP for the thread.... come on...

He wanted to ask something that hasn't been asked before.

While we're at it though, 9mm or .45?

:neener:

I won't vote in this one though because I think all three are equally good. I own all Glocks. If I could do it over again, it would be nice if I could have stepped in right now and just started, so as to get all XD(m)'s. Of course, I can always just pop a match grade barrel in a Glock too.

They're all good, try them out and figure out which you prefer.

Glocks fit my hands a little better than the other two, but all three work. Purely a matter of personal taste.

XD & MP are great but like "ugaarguy" said, there are so many things you can do with glocks! With one Glock you can buy conversion barrels to shoot 9mm out of 40cal and 357sig guns, you can buy a 22lr conversion kit and even convert your pistol into a carbine!

Own the M+P full size 9mm; several glocks and an XD45 tactical.

I prefer the glocks for their reliability record over the years and in my hands. I shoot the M+P as well as the glocks, the XD doesn't seem quite right in my hands but I shoot it well enough I'd carry it without a problem if I didn't have the glocks.

I haven't shot the M&P, but between the XD and the Glock I prefer the XD. The Glock didn't feel right in my hand, I guess it was the grip angle like others have said. I do like the fact that Glock parts are everywhere though.

I think all 3 have their place & their fans but as long as everyone compares or includes Glocks in the "which one is better?" thread, the standard has been set & until someone knocks off the king (or sets a new standard)....
Long live the king!

i own an XD45ACP Standard.. so, i voted XD.. i'm impressed.. the only thing about the XDs are the trigger.. it's a long pull, and the reset is also long.. if SA would take some slack out of it, it would be great.. the sights are immensely hard to adjust or remove.. the early models have rust problems due to the finish, but SA will refinish the earlier non-melonite XDs that show pitting/rust for free.. the lack of an XD45ACP-SC is irritating.. the XD45C is a compromise on not having a SC model.. the lack of aftermarket parts is a reality with the XD.. for all the shortcomings of the XD, it's a very competent combat pistol..

the M&P is really, really nice and i wouldn't mind having one, but there are a few problems with it that i can't ignore.. 1) 10 rounds.. 2) the trigger is very gritty feeling (the pistol that i fired had less than 300 rounds though it, so i'm sure that it would be less so with more through it) 3) the field stripping procedure with the internal lever.. other than that, it's a beautiful pistol.. it's well balanced.. i like the slide serrations, very positive grip..

as for Glocks.. i don't like the grip angle, or shape.. and that's pretty much it..

I just bought an XD45acp. I love the thing to death, it's an amazing pistol as far as comfort, usability, etc. I took mine out for the first time today and liked the fact that it didn't have a harsh recoil.

Plus 13 rounds of .45acp? Yes please. Apparently these guns sell like hot-cakes from what the guy I bought mine from said. I understand why.
