Last Night I was sitting in a restaurant with a group of friends. One of them (Who often admits to being afraid of "assault weapons" and wants them banned) brought up the Boston bombings.

I waited until just the right moment in the conversation, and then tossed it out there- "yeah, it's terrible how that pressure cooker made it so easy for that Mad Man to kill and injure all those people!"

Not realizing I was baiting her, the anti nodded her head in agreement.

So I went on with it. "Now that the news made such a big deal about it, we are probably going to be seeing pressure cookers in our schools and movie theaters!"

She agreed completely "Yeah, like the crazies needed a new way to kill people".

Seeing that the bait was being nibbled on, I set the hook. "We need to get ahead of this NOW and ban pressure cookers!"

She looked at me like I was stupid and said nothing.

I let the silence sit there for a second or two.

Then I said it for her. "That's a pretty ridiculous thing to say, isn't it?"

It was awesome. The anti actually opened her mouth and said "A pressure cooker is just a thing. We can't ban them just because it was used to kill people".

Boom. There it was. The light went on and I saw it. I just got an anti to shoot her own argument down, and she knew it.

I said "You do realize that using a pressure cooker to kill and injure a whole crowd of people makes it an assault weapon, right?"

I could see that she wanted to argue, but she had nothing and just sat there.

I said. "I mean, it killed and injured so it's a weapon... and those people were clearly assaulted... Right?"

She said nothing again. But I saw the gears turning in her head and that's exactly what we need. Getting these people to think would solve the problem.

So, I went ahead and put it to bed. "Well, at least they caught one of them. maybe we can figure out why he did it now."

She said "I hope so."

I said "Yeah, it's really not about the weapon used, anyway. It's the killer that needs to be stopped."

And then the subject changed to something else.

I think there's room for this kind of discussion.

Right now, the situation is ripe for us to get a fingernail under the gun grabber's thinking.

I think we need to use this when we get the chance. It's so stupid it might even work.

Try it on your next anti!

If it saves just a Single Life it is worth it. How could you possibly be against banning such a devastating device?

At least get Pelosi to ask for universal background checks for pressure cookers, and end the cooking show loophole.

I would never own one. I have heard that the old ones were prone to blow sky hi if not used correctly. Way to scary for me.

im going out to buy some now...im gona get ahead of the curve on this one..do 12" crock pots count?

Too late. Can't get one around here; the stores are already out. And, I've got a party next weekend, so I need a "high-capacity" one, too! :banghead:

Awesome story. Thanks for sharing.

Having used it as a painter, the first thing I thought after I heard that they used a cooking pressure pot was that these: Paint pressure pot would also be on the ban list along with the rest of the "assault pressure pots".
Now that is just being silly but then who would have thought that a .22 semi-automatic rifle like a Ruger 10-22 would be on a proposed list of banned assault rifles by our Government.

It's the criminal - not the weapon..

Don't forget to ban knives too! (remember the recent college student and the knife attack). The U.S. Constitution right to 'Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness' included 'Life'. Everyone has the right to protect themselves and others. ;)

Not by "our Government", by one senator. Important distinction. "Our Government" ended up NOT imposing any new gun control measures. Let's not forget that we live in a democracy.

WOW! My Mom had a smaller pressure cooker back when I was a little kid, but my Mother-in-Law had a High Capacity Pressure Cooker (used for canning rather than just food prep).

I don't have Mom's ... but I bet my wife has her Mom's. Better hide it for sure!:neener:
