I'm sure this has been done before, but I didn't see it and they are so much fun to read. I'd love to hear your stories of bumps in the night or other situations resulting in you grabbing your weapon. They can be totally benign, or result in an actual confrontation. Whatever the case may be.
Mine is pretty weak, but since I asked, I shall contribute...
While working for a timber company, doing solo survey work on company property, I would carry a TZ-99 (Sig wannabe) for self defense. There's a lot of pot farms where I worked and I'd seen mountain lions as well. One day I road my ATV down a heavily overgrown old logging road and suddenly realized I was in the middle of a large marijuana field. I stopped to note my position when I heard the distinct sound of footsteps coming through the bushes. Fearing I would be shot on site, I produced my gun, chambered a round and prepared for the worst. At this point I was scared <removed by moderator>. I had heard stories of growers having AK-47's and not being afraid to use them. As fun as it looks in the movies, I did NOT want to be in a gunfight! I can't remember why I didn't fire up the quad and ride like hell, but for some reason, I just stood there (dear in the headlights maybe?) To my relief, out pops a 12 year old kid through the brush, sans an AK-47. I was like, "***** dude! You can't be growing weed on our property!" He apologized, said he'd tear it down and offered me some goose eggs from his parents farm down the hill. I could hardly stay mad at the little guy, despite him scaring the hell out of me with his pot farm and trespassing to care for it, besides, those goose eggs were delicious.
