What is the best reference for prices on knives? I have a friend who wants to sell her deceased husbands knife collection. She has quite a few CASE sets, commerative knives and various other boxed sets.

you can check out the bernard levine forums on www.bladeforums.com and www.knifeforums.com

mr. levine is one of the more knowledgeable knife people in the country and writes regular articles in knifeworld magazine as well as many books. levines guide to knives is considered a very good reference book.... but only buy the 4th edition... bernard has no connection to the 5th edition and the pricing is suspect

he will not do appraisals for free on the web but does offer that service for a fee. if the collection is substantial it may well be worth that.

j. bruce voyles out of chattanooga is the editor of knives illustrated and runs one of the bigger if not the biggest knife related auction services. james (?) parker out of the same city is also a major dealer and i believe he owned case at one time.

also consider ag russell out of arkansas...he is one of the most reputable dealers in the country.

finished ebay auctions can also give a rough estimate

some case knives are worth a lot .... many are not...commeratives are often worth less than people think but only someone really into those knives could tell you

there are so many variations and nuances to that market it would be well worth getting help....

Thanks for the info. My son picked up a book on knife prices just to get a reference and some of them are worth some dough. One Remington knife was out of sight. We'll probably be contacting some appraisers soon. Again thanks for the information.
