Going to Washington State, can I bring my gun?

If you're coming to Seattle I would not recommend that you open carry, even though it is technically legal. Many, if not most, of the good citizens here will wet their panties and call the police, if you do. I've lived here most of my 73 years and only seen one person, in all that time, open carrying. A lot of us carry concealed, though.

The people here in Seattle and the surrounding area are often alarmed if they see someone carrying a gun, but the cops are spot-on and know the laws. The cops here don't make a habit of harassing open or concealed carriers. Sure, people occasionally call 911 when they see someone carrying (usually it's a concealed carrier whose shirt rode up), but the cops understand that's not a reason to arrest or even approach a person.

A police officer acquaintance of mine told me of one time a woman was at a park just outside Seattle and she observed a man playing with his young child. The man's shirt rode up, she saw his gun, and she panicked and called 911. The dispatcher tried to explain to her that the man was doing nothing that warranted a police response, but she was so insistent that they sent an officer out. The officer arrived at the scene, observed the man playing peacefully with his child, then approached the woman who had called it in. He then sternly lectured the woman about how the man was breaking no laws and was harming nobody, and chastised the woman for wasting valuable police time and resources. Then the officer left without ever approaching the man; the entire time he was completely unaware that the police had been called on him.

This is why we need National Reciprocity. You would be responsible for knowing the state's law differences, same as now, but any state's legal permit is good in any other state, including may issue states, so long as you obey that state's rules.

Or simply make the entire nation Constitutional carry. Problem solved.
