I've been doing a lot of reading (and am still reading) about reloads for an M1A. Of course I have come across Glen Zediker's article which has been influencing much of my approach. I'm considering this:

Bullet: 150 gr. Golden West Brass
Casing: Lake City
Primer: CCI
Powder: Hodgdon H4895 @ 43 grs.

I'm not looking for high accuracy match quality, just something to plink at ~200 yd. My biggest question is whether the Golden West Brass bullets would be OK in my M1A for this purpose. Does anyone see any particular issues with my combination? Thanks.

I have and shoot an M1A and use surplus 147/150 gr bullets for informal shooting(plinking) and they work fine in my LC cases. I have never heard of Golen West Brass Bullets. Is that word "brass" the name, or the composition of the bullet? Most bullets have a jacket of gilding metal that is basically copper composition. I would strongly suggest you do some research on this bullet before using it. Brass bullets would not make your M1A's barrel very happy.

I'm using Golden West Brass 150gr bullets in my 308 DPMS. They work fine in my gun with Tac powder. Not the most accurate I've tried, but I'm not done testing them yet.

Golden West Brass is the name of the company. Seem to be good prices per bullet and others have said the same for other calibers. I'm going to pick up 45 FMJ as well if this proves to be worth while for the M1A. Thanks for the info so far.

Well, here are some pics of my results: http://www.pixagogo.com/5633304241 Click on a pic to make bigger, then click on original at the top to blow that up. The GWB tests are at 107 yards with the Tac powder. I'm only at about the halfway point on powder with more tests to go. I have them loaded in hotter stages, but haven't had time to get out and test. I hope they get better. Then again, I'm having issues with the gun.

tkcomer, thanks for the PICs. I just placed my order with GWB. I'm going to be picking up some LC brass in in the next few days as well. Thanks to loadedround, too.
