I'm looking for extra mags for my new GI Springfield and I would like to know the consensus on Chip McCormacks, Meggars or even the Springfields as I have a coupon to get up to 10 of them for $9 apiece. If there's any other mags to recommend let me know about them as well. Thanks in advance!

After using many different mags and combos, my preferred magazines are McCormick PowerMags with rounded MetalForm followers. The lower priced McCormicks are called Shooting Stars and they have a bit more spotty history than the PowerMags. I've had generally good results with the Shooting Stars but I wouldn't personally recommend them myself. I see no reason to save a few dollars per magazine when you can get fine mags for just a bit more.

I'm pretty sure the Springfield mags are still made by MetalForm. Generally good and pretty cheap. The thing to keep in mind when you get into 1911s and have several mags to utilize is to number them and keep track of which mags are very consistantly good feeding and those that might more hit and miss. Again, no reason to compromise reliability just to save a couple bucks by having a junk magazine mixed in with your good ones.

I don't care for MecGar 1911 mags.

My record with these mags is spotless.

Midway USA often has specials on OEM 1911 mags made by, I think, Hi Standard. I have had good luck with them in a wide variety of 1911's.

I have several CMC Shooting Stars that work flawlessly in my Kimber Custom.

I bought 5 of the Springfield mags with a factory coupon when I bought my mil-spec 1911.......they were only $8 then.

I have had no problems whatsoever with them and in fact, they are my best 1911 mags. If I could get a good deal on them, I'd buy more.

I have some Wilsons, CMC, and Kimber mags. I have changed all the Springs and followers to Wilsons in everyone of my non Wilsons mags. All of them have been great. I highly recomend them for all 1911's. Although the reason I did it was because I have an aluminum framed Kimber. See this link to see why You should use polymer followers on these types of 1911's.

Get the Midway OEM ones marked High Standard.

They work great a few I got when I ordered the 10 pack needed a wee bit of tweaking on the fed lips to function with hollowpoints but that was that.

I've had McCormicks and Wilson's that gave me troubles with HP's and nothing could be done to fix'em either.

So save your money and go OEM.
