Looking for a for fun gun.

I'm wanting to get a .22 auto that will just be fun to shoot. From what I've heard and read, the ones to get tend to be either the Ruger MkIII or the Browning Buckmark. Just one problem though... I really don't like the look of them...

Are there any other .22 autos out there that are going to last and be fairly reliable even with normal run of the mill ammo?

Seems like there is or will shortly be another 1911 style .22 out. Uramex (sp) I believe is the maker.

Walther and Sig have one each as well. Then too, S&W has a .22 version of their M&P. I'm sure there are more. A quick google search should trn them up.

Firestorm FS22

Made by Bersa. Bersa has one out under their own name as well. Essentially the same firearm. Looks like a PPK/S or Sig 232. I use mine as cheap practice in place of my Sig 232. Google it, mostly favorable reviews.

I would be interested in both the P22 or the new Ruger SR22 but have heard that they are picky as to what ammo will feed reliably. Is this true?

The only issue I've had with mine is cycling standard velocity ammo. It runs best on the Remington golden bullets. But YMMV...

What I have seen, and I'm just one guy, is that any .22 that has to cycle a full slide likes hotter ammo. HOWEVER, I have also found that after a few thousand rounds, they are much more forgiving. With my Ciener kit now I can crank through Remington bulk pack all day with no failures from the gun. (I do get the occasional bad primer from the ammo.)

Not true with my SR22, has fed a variety of stuff reliably for me. Quite the accurate little gun, too. It seems to like Federal Lightening bulk pack a lot. It's misfired on one (ammo isn't well primed) in 500 rounds. My Mark 2 has a 1 in 100 (estimating) misfire rate with Federal. CCI has 100 percent reliable ignition, but costs more and is a little less accurate in the SR22. It shoots CCI to about 2.5" at 25 yards, the Federal to about 2". The Mk 2 shoots either into 1" at 50 yards, but I cheat, have a scope on the gun. My eyes are good for only about 1" at 25 with iron sights.

I have had a S&W 22A for several years and it has been both accurate and fun but after about 50 rounds it has to be cleaned or it will start to malfunction. It can also be ammo sensitive. I want to get a CZ Kadet or Kadet kit when finances allow so I can practice with the same basic platform I carry.

The Smith and Wesson M&P 22 is really nice. Looks almost exactly like my .40 and you can shoot it all day for $20.

I really enjoy shooting my Kadet kit on my CZ 75 platform.

Same weight, and trigger, and extremely accurate. It's allowed me to become much better with the 75.

Not ammo sensitive at all.

Interesting.

My Neos takes about 50 rounds before it's dirty enough for the hiccups to go away. After that it's amazingly reliable.

I've always reloaded, so never thought of a .22 as "cheap practice for the carry gun". But, it is FUN and good marksmanship training and everyone needs at least one .22 and ESPECIALLY if, unlike me, you don't have a Dillon progressive sitting in your shop and a Lee production casting pot and molds for every caliber.

My carry practice is done with my carry and ammo costs me less than 3 dollars a box of 50. I STILL shoot a LOT of .22LR ammunition. I don't have to hassle with picking up the brass. Of course, I can say that about my .38 and .357 magnums. :D

CZ Kadet

That is the only thing to say....CZ Kadet and if you want you can get the conversion and have the CZ 9MM and the Kadet. I just have the Kadet. Very nice firearm...came with 2 mags and I have speed loader for the mags because my 69 year old hands are not so strong anymore. It is a very nice gun...not cheap...with tax I paid just at $600 for NIB in 2009 but I love it.

CZ Kadet:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

Mcgunner that 3$ per 50 is still 3times what i got my 25,000 rounds of remington surplus 22 for...

Now im looking for new 22s to shoot it with

I've been feeding my S&W 422 nothing but Federal 525 bulk. No problems other than the occasional FTF from not sliding up the feed ramp. And a quick tap to the slide fixes those.

If you have a full size 1911, a conversion kit is an excellent way to go. I have a Kimber conversion that is accurate and has been reliable since day one. I also like the Tactical Solution conversion although it is more expensive.

I do like the look of the SR22, I'll have to try to find a place that will rent one and see how it feels.

Have also thought about getting a Ruger 22 full size revolver (already have a bearcat)..... Hhmmm, maybe I'll just have to get both! :)

It doesn't get any better than the CZ Kadet for a "fun" .22, plus its a great trainer for service size pistols. I bought a 9MM 75B several years ago and added a Kadet Kit right away. They are fantastic.

Just go ahead and bite the bullet and drop $1100.00 on a S&W 41. You'll have a good gun and look really cool shooting it too.

Hey, it's only money - right?:D:D

Federal bulk pack is 20 bucks now at Wallyworld, bought a box the other day. That's a little under 2 dollars for 50, but it doesn't give me the quality of practice that shooting my actual carry guns does for a dollar a box difference. I still love shooting .22, though, and own last count, 11 of 'em, though I only have 4 I really like for plinking and shoot much. I will plink occasionally with the others, especially my little NAAs. :D
