Hey guys, I want to get another .22 pistol for pure fun/plinking at the range. Main things I'm looking for here is reliability, accuracy, and a fun pistol to shoot. already have a ruger 22/45 so not really interested in another. I was thinking more along the lines of either a browning buckmark or a Sig P220... interesting thing about the P220, it has a .22LR to .45ACP conversion kit for $389.99 which I thought was a pretty great deal. Anyone have any experience with the Buckmark or the Sig P220? Thanks!

P220 a great pistol in 45, no experience in 22 conversion though. I really like my buckmark with a 7.25" barrel it is very accurate and extremely reliable.

I can't speak to the Browning or the Sig, but I have a S&W 422 that I like quite a bit. Good shooter, that gun. Easy to use, easy to clean, fun to plink with. Not sure if they still make them, but they come up used quite often.

You've already got a superb larger "full hand" sort of gun in the Ruger. What about a .22 mouse gun? Perhaps live a bit of the James Bond dream with a PPK in .22? Another very nice .22 is the new(er) GSG 1911 .22. Of all the less expensive 1911 .22's I've seen so far this one takes the cake. Nice mags and a slide to frame fit that shouts "Quality" every time you rack it. It's actually far, far nicer than the Chiappa .22. There's other 1911 .22's but the prices go up FAST for them. The GSG could easily sell for more along the line of the higher priced versions and it would still be worth the money. But it's quite cheap so if you fancy a 1911 then get one.

If you like 1911's, I'll second the recommendation for the GSG (ATI imported) 1911 .22. It's a great little shooter. I (and others) have written about it extensively in other threads, but if you have specific questions just ask. :)

If your in to auto,s browning buckmark, ruger mark III.Revolver S&W 617 or 63 are hard to beat.

welcome to forum

this comes up a lot, if search forum will find LOTS of discussion, lots of polls
the short version answer being that Ruger MKs and Buckmarks are always the dominant vote getters in semi-auto 22 pistols
you have an MK, get a Buckmark, you can expect both to compete head to head, for accuracy and reliability... and fun

I love my 422, I wish they still made them I would buy a few more. I also have a Buck Mark that I put a Bushnell Red Dot for the heck of it. Both are great range/plinking guns.

I am not in love with the .22 conversions for bigger pistols. It's just too much more gun than a .22 needs. I have a CZ-75B .22 conversion and I would much rather shoot a real .22.

My favorite is the Ruger Mk II. Again, the standard, not the heavy bull barrel (678GC), which I also have but never shoot.

If you want something different than the Ruger, how about a revolver?

Ken

Beretta Jaguar or Cheetah series, hands down. I hate recommeding these guns, though, because I really don't need any more people looking for them ;)

I have a ruger 5.5mkii a 7.5" single six convertable, and im really thinking about a pmr-30. Have been seing accuracy reports in the 2"'at 25yards. I target shoot alot but also hunt with my .22 and to be honest i have had issues with terminal performance on groundhogs. I open carry And want something for hiking/trail that can do everything (small game, self defense, ferral dogs etc). I shoot much better with a service size gun and since i open carry anyway...

I have a Sig P220 .45 along with the .22 conversion slide as well as a Ruger Mk III. Both are excellent shooters. The Sig conversion slide works well--it's aluminum and very lightweight. Usually with .22 conversion slides the problem with ammo and FTF issues is having enough energy to cycle the slide. My Sig cycles just fine with CCI Blazer 22LR though when I first purchased it, the guys at the gun shop recommended some high velocity ammo like CCI Stingers. The only issue I've had with it are some failures to feed if it gets real dirty. The benefit is that you learn the same trigger pull for the .45 ACP. But obviously this is a much more expensive route if all you want is a .22 plinking gun. I've always wanted a Sig P220, so this was the way to go for me.

I love my Ruger Mk III. So does the wife (in fact she claims it as hers--which is why I picked up the Sig). It's a little more picky field stripping, but once you do it a few times it's very easy. If you want a dedicated plinking gun that eats any ammo you feed it, is accurate, and reliable, this is the one I would recommend.

I got to agree with Shear stress; a Beretta Model 87 (Cheetah), or an older Model 71 (Jaguar) or Model 70S, would make for a great little .22LR pistol. Perfect for plinking or even informal target use, these well designed and built guns are just the right size for years of reliable and accurate shooting pleasure.

i love my buckmark. feels perfect in my hand with the URX grips. i was going to get a 22/45 ruger till i held both side by side. that said tho, if you have a 22/45, id consider a different style of gun because the buckmark and 22/45 seem to handle similarly.

I have the browning buckmark and is very accurate to shoot. Will eat anything up solids, hollow points, cheap and good ammo. Here are a couple of pictures with a 10 shot group at 25 meters not yards. Jams occur after a couple of thousand rounds only and than I clean it up.

I couldn't be happier with my 6.75" Ruger Hunter. Amazingly accurate!
