Looking at possible if at any options for a cheaper 308 semi-auto. Cheap as in not m1a/ar-10 pricing. I also live in NJ which restricts what we can get so fal's and saigas are not an option. Thanks for the help

Remington 750 or browning BAR are your only 2 options. Both shoot plenty well enough for deer hunting. Used Remingtons, 740, 748, 7400 series can be had down here for 300-400 bucks. The 750 is about 100 more. A used BAR will run 550 and up

I had a 7400 i really liked, never had the issues other people say they do. Ive used a bar in 7mm quite a bit, i also like that gun, but it IS pretty heavy.

pwrstrkd,

As with all gun recommendations, you need to communicate two(2) all important things;

1. Intentions with the gun (match shooting, hunting, Self defense, etc)
2. Price range

You indicated that you dont want an expensive gun as in AR-10 pricing, however, without knowing your price range its tough to know what you really mean. AR in 308 can be had for $900-$5500...depending on whether or not you are willing to pay to be tacticool. You can find used DPMS 308 for about $750-$850 if your not above picking up used rifles.

Once again, respond with a wee bit more info, then you can get intelligent recommendations on what may fit your needs the best.
