Good AK-47?

A Saiga or Saiga based conversion.

If you ever decide to sell it, it's pedigree will raise it's worth by a considerable amount. After all, Kalashnikov himself works at the same plant they're made at.

In determining which Arsenal AK to get, what is the difference in LOP in the NATO and Warsaw butt-stocks. Is this a preferential thing or is their a recommended way to go?

Can you guys advise me on how well K-VAR is when they sell you a weapon?
They have quoted me an SGL 21 for $699.
Your advise please.
Thanks

Get an Arsenal SLR-95 and convert with an Ace sidefolder. You will be approximating the Sam7A1R at much less cost and have probly the best AK money can buy or pretty close to it. Mine was accurate and very smooth.

Where can I find the mil-spec ones? Have you found any, if so from what distributor/gunshop?

All that have been imported in the last 3 years are built off used Millitary parts. Most are in great shape, one I saw had chrome flaking off the 1" top 1/2 of muzzle, (1985 triangle Cugir) another was a old contract gun ( numbers only) that when the muzzle nut was dremeled off had rust under there. Make sure the accessory rail is not TOO canted ( some cant is normal) or even WARSAW pact optics wont work.

In short, make sure you look it over very carefully, slightly canted (front, or more common the rear ) canted sights are not the worst thing that can happen.

Also a nice polishing out of the internal front trunion rivets will make mag changes easier.

What I'm looking at from K-Var is an Arsenal built piece. Its through the mail so I can't see the thing until I get it. Maybe I just need to forget this whole thing if I have to be so concerned about all this. Kinda thought if it was an Arsenal, then I wouuldn't have any issues. Am I mistaken??????

An AK is not a match rifle. Nor is it capable of sub-moa or even 2 moa accuracy. An AKM was designed around a stamped receiver. A milled receiver just adds weight and expense. IMHO there is absolutely no reason to get a milled receiver AK - other rifles yes, AK no.

I have a home converted saiga and think it is wonderful. If you don't want to do it yourself Arsenal's from Kvar in 7.62 are good, in .223 they have issues. If you want to spend less order a new WASR from Aimsurplus.com, budsgunshop.com, or atlanticfirearms.com and have it shipped to your local FFL. You have a very good chance of getting a good WASR straight from a high volume dealer. However, pawnshops and consignment racks are well stocked with other peoples problems.

You haven't seen the Mini 30 mentioned much on here.
A lot less money will buy a very good SKS or the same will buy a very good Garand.

My SKS is more reliable than my Mini, using Wolf and Monarch ammo.

Care in inform us unenlightened folks of all of these great reasons to lug around a 10lb rifle (other than aesthetics)?

:)

best reason is that a milled wont be bent under stress of combat...falling off a vehicle, mounted...mountain climbing etc.

I've seen a Ma'adi ( OK yes it's (eagyptus Crapus) bent when put into a vice a little to enthusiastically. Hum Dlilila!

Usually a stamped is just fine.

I have ownder both milled an stamped, at presernt I own a Egyptian made Maddi, I got it from a guy going throght a bad divorce! I paid 375 with (12) 30 rnd mags, and a case of steel core ammo, that was a decade ago and I have never looked back!

if your gonna talk specs dont make up things for effect a milled ak is not 10lbs.
Okay, 9.5lbs unloaded. OTOH the AKM is more than 2.5lbs lesser in weight (3.14kg).

BTW, considering that you want to get technical, 4.3 kg = 9.47987727lbs...which rounds to 9.5lbs using the significant figures from the technical specifications provided above.

The Warsaw Pact length is approximately 9¼", the NATO is 10½"; so a difference of about 1¼"...

I prefer the shorter Warsaw Pact-length stock on my SGL20.

M2, I like your SGL20-41
Where did you guys get your weapons. Seriously...I am looking for what you have.
Thanks, Jerry

Jerry

I got mine from AJC Sports Shop at a local gun show. I've bought from Alan before, he usually has very competitive prices due to the volume sales he does. I was very happy with the price of my SGL20!

Cheers! M2

My AK is a Ishmash build (well, a bit modified by me) and chambered in my favorite rifle caliber, the .308 Winchester. An AK on steroids.

And would this rifle take 30 rd magazines or not?
I don't know too much about it, but Zastava generally produces a pretty decent product, at least from a functionality standpoint. I can say that it will not take "high capacity" staggered magazines (without modification) as the mag well is cut for a single stack magazine.

:)

Romanian AK (WASR-10)

This is just before and after pix of my AK. I love guns but I think im more into modifying them. not to happy with the forend grip though. Please feel free to comment, sometimes critisism can be extremely constructive. BTW, the stock, pistol grip and forend are ATI strikeforce, scope is NCStar and the flashlight and laser is an off-brand, everything real cheap, but functions well! After mods where done, i shot about 800 rounds thru it and nothing got bent out of shape.

I have a very good YUGO SKS and a Mini 30 the Mini 30 is about 1.5 at 100 YDS and the SKS is almost as good most of the time. The sks has never jammed or had a FTF with any ammo. The Ruger needed a new firing pin spring to shoot military classic and will not shoot the corrosive Chinese ammo at all and still cycle. At rhe time i could have purchased 4 SKS for what I paid for the Ruger. Never owned an AK yet so don't know about a comparison.
