Are there any good (reliable, sturdy) tech sight options for the AK? I really hate the partridge sights...

While I agree that the Ultimak Aimpoint combo is really where it is at when it comes to AKs, I have a feeling there are more than few people who bought their AK because it was cheap and will balk at the $650 or so price tag of an ultimak and a T1.

There are of course people who have argued such a sight doesn't belong on a rugged AK and presents an unacceptable weak link but I think arguments are silly and under questioning I have always found those people were pretty unfamiliar with aimpoint sights and their capabilities.

Looked up the Ultimak...so basically is an aluminum replacement for the gas tube that has a rail on top? Nice...though the $100 price tag is higher than I would expect but its not insane.

A Primary Arms Microdot with an Ultimak rail will only set you back $154. That makes paying $110 for the AK Tech Sights seem like a pretty poor choice. The Ultimak/dor sight combo is the absolute best way to improve your AK's sights. Plus, it leaves your original sights untouched for use as back ups and it doesn't make your top cover difficult to remove. I might get some Tech Sights if they were down around $50, but not for over $100.

Not to hijack the thread, but I just put a Krebs peep sight on my AK today, because I liked the idea of better irons, but wanted something drop-in. The Tech Sights make design sense to me on a 10 22 or even SKS, but seem a little jury-rigged on the AK. I could be totally wrong, but it just doesn't seem as solid to me, mounted on the removable back cover on the AK.

Just get an Ultimak rail and put an Aimpoint.....
I agree, and it doesnt necessarily have to be the Micro. The older, larger Comp M/Comp ML models work just as well, and are probably a little more robust. There is nothing faster and easier to shoot with. The Ultimak is the only rail I've seen so far, that will allow you to cowitness the iron sights with the dot. With the Aimpoint mounted low and up front, the rifle shoulders and shoots like it does with the iron sights alone, and you also get basically the same cheek weld. You can easily snap shoot targets at 100 yards and beyond.

i'm new to this, what is the advantage of the tech sight over the standard ak sights?
For me, nothing. I dont have any problem with the stock AK sights, especially when you shoulder and shoot the gun realistically. The stock sights are fine, and actually easier and faster to use up close, and more than adequate when shooting out to 300 yards, if youre up to it.

The rear mounted peep on the AK's looks like a good idea, but if you shoot with a properly shouldered rifle, with your head down and forward, with your nose to or alongside the top cover, the Tech Sight or others similar, will not allow you to shoulder the rifle properly, and the sight will be right in your face.

Is this what you're talking about? This might do.....
Thats basically just Krebs version of the Mojo, which doesnt really work well either, or at least if your planning on shooting the rifle realistically. Peep sights are meant to be close to the eye, so while you do still "see" the rear sight, youre actually looking through it, focusing on the front sight. Your brain does the aligning without thought. With the peep forward, you still have to align the sight with thought, and its no faster to use than the stock sights. If anything, ts slower.

AK, you are correct. I like the micro for two reasons.

1: It allows for co-witness with the irons. Full size sit a bit to high for that
2: It is a lot lighter. Unlike the AR, the AK puts optics forward of the balance point and a heavy sight can really unbalance the gun.

Those are personal preferences however.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Maybe AK103K is right, but I've wanted to try it for a while. Hopefully, by Monday I'll have a range report

This is the primary reason to go with the Micro IMHO. The micro and a mount are very light. One could got with an H1 to save some money over the T1 but to me once you are in that price range why not just pay a little more and get the best. Over the life of the sight the price difference becomes rather insignificant compared to say ammo cost.

The Micros are nice, but the M series are not bad either. I doubt you'd really even notice the little extra weigh the sight adds. Balance of the gun isnt affected at all.

I have ML2's on a couple of my AK's. They were the top of the line when I got them, and are still going strong. They are the only red dots I've used that held up to use/abuse. I've had a number of other red dots before them, and none of them held up to even moderate use. Battery life on them was miserable too, and if left on, were dead soon after. The M2's will last over a year when left on 24/7 and at just above the medium setting. I dont even bother to turn them off. Some of the newer Aimpoints will last close to 10 years now on one battery.
