AIMsurplus has cmmg 2 stage triggers. I know CMMG is good but I figured I'd ask around in case there was a favorite trigger setup among the members of this forum.

Thanks!

I have a Geissele in my match rifle that I use for hi-power matches. If you shoot serious target, Geissele is darn hard to beat - but, so is the price at around $280. I think it depends on what you want to do with the rifle and the disposable income available to sink into it. Rock River makes a nice all-around two stage trigger for about $100. It is a nice trigger that, in my opinion, will not hold a candle to the Geissele for target work - but, I get beat by Rock River triggers on a regular basis.

Another vote for Rock River National Match trigger.

Can't beat them with a stick for the money.

Yet another vote for the RRA NM trigger. For another $35.00 you can send it to John at White Oak Precision for his magic. John may also have already tuned RRA's on the shelf.

The stock RRA NM trigger is already good out of the box but John makes them perfect.

I have a Timney 3# single stage in my Bushmaster C15M4 and am very pleased with it. It is a huge improvement over the factory two stage and has made quite a difference in the way the rifle shoots.

How much of a difference does a two stage trigger make? What kind of improvements will you see, and are they really worth the extra $90?

Thanks for all of the responses!

How does the CMMG trigger compare to the Rock River NM? I'm wondering if I should even bother with the CMMG version and just get a RRA NM.

EraserXIV - 2 stage triggers allow you to set up a "hair trigger" while still maintaining a safe gun.

e.g.
-1 stage trigger takes 5 pounds of pull - then breaks to fire
-2 stage trigger you pull 4 pounds of pressure for the first click - then 1 more pound to fire.

Thus allowing you to keep the sites on target.

Is a two stage trigger better, worse, or irrelevant for use in SD/HD situations.

well i know how 2-stage triggers function, but does that really translate to real-world benefits? and i guess the more pressing question: is it worth the extra money? (especially if i'm on a tight budget?)

A good trigger is always worth the money for me. I shoot my AR-15 with the Rock River NM 2-stage trigger in service rifle matches-where a good trigger is indispensible for a good score. I don't know how well a 2-stage trigger works in self-defense situations but they are standard fare in military rifle applications.

How does the trigger feel if you pull it quickly all in one step like you would if you were defending yourself.

cbrgator,

I fear that you may be hijacking the thread. The Strategy & Tactics sub-forum is the best place to find an answer your question. In a quick draw situation a 2-stage won't help.... at least not in a way that I know of. If you have time to aim or prepare to shoot then a 2-stage will almost always help. That is the extent of my knowledge. However, this side-topic could easily grow into it's own lengthy debate.

worse

wacki, what are you going to do with the trigger?
i've only played with cmmg triggers in the gun shop, but they seemed like a decent middle-of-the-road trigger.
i have KACx2, JP (soon to be x2), Jewel, geisselex2, RRAx2, compass lake, and some other triggers. they each have pros and cons.

wacki, what are you going to do with the trigger?

For the thread's purposes I'd love to have at least one top of the line target trigger, 1 top of the line CQB/SHTF trigger and then several "best buy" CQB/SHTF triggers.

Wacki,
I have a BM 2-stage in my 24" Varminter and it is sweet!
I put a RRA 2-stage in my S&W 15T and it was good, but inconsistent. So, I sent it off to White Oak Armament and they fine-tuned it to 4.5#(for about 40 bucks). Again, Sweet!
Then, I built up a .204 AR Varminter and had White Oak tune the (RRA) trigger to 3.5#. For a varmint (semi-auto) gun, it's absolutely great!
You should also look at the AR Gold trigger from American Trigger Tech. Jerry Miculek (and others) use it for competition. It has a very short reset, as well as a low weight trigger. It's kind of pricey, but for a "tactical" trigger, it may be the best one yet.

I did my own, a little weld and some polishing. Very clean break at just over 3.5lbs. Took about 30 minutes and didn't cost a penny...

I have 2 RRA 2-stage triggers and like them a lot. My BM has the standard GI trigger. I just cleaned up the engagment surfaces on it and dropped the the pull from almost 8 lbs down to 6.5 lbs. I just ordered some springs from Brownells. I figured the replacement parts are cheap enough. If it doesn't work out and can go back to stock.
