Good but cheap bolt action that isn't a nugget?

I've been very happy with my Yugo M24/47 (mine picked up an M48 stock somewhere along the way). I did buy mine from SAMCO for $200 at the time and it was labelled as excellent condition (the excellent condition ones are going for $220 at the moment IIRC). By all appearances it's basically a new rifle with a ton of history. Shoots very accurately and the 8mm Mauser ammo can be found pretty cheaply and is right on par with 7.62x54r and .30-06. I've been very happy with it and I'd highly recommend it. I much prefer the safety and overall length of my M24/47 to my Mosin-Nagant 91/30. I think it's a very nice looking rifle to boot.

+1 on the Yugo Mausers (beautiful rifle in the previous post by the way). Here's another option, a straight-pull Schmidt-Rubin Model 1931 carbine (K31) in 7.5mm Swiss. Classic Arms (their image below) has them for $220-240 depending on the stock. Surplus Swiss FMJ ammo can be had for as little as 50 cents a round and Prvi Partizan hunting loads for about 75 cents a round.

9$ more plus tax and you can get the marlin xl-7. I have one in 30-06. They usually have them for $279 at the local cabelas or my local trading post was $259. They also have the xs-7 in 308. xl=long bolt action. xs=short bolt action. Then ya need a scope tho. No factory sights.
Also mosin as you said and put bent bolt kit on, no easy task tho unless you have the correct tools. Got that also.

I'll check out these rifles.

If I could find a nicer mosin nagant such as an US made one or finnish I will snag it up.

I looked today while I was passing through and saw a couple nice Savages and Stevens rifles in .270, .243, and 30 '06 for less than $300.
Not to slight the Finnish Mosins because I feel that they are among the finest service rifles I've ever owned, but a bolt action sporter is already drilled and tapped for a scope. Just depends on what you want to use it for I guess.
