Preatty simple, I'm looking for a good 45 to carry, price isn't really an issue under 1k.

Plastic or metal is fine, just looking for the most reliable accurate pistol of the bunch, two that I have been looking at:

HK 45C
Sig P220 carry

I currently carry a 9 but looking to go up to a 45, what do you guys think in this category?

I've had very good luck with Sigs for many years -- I'd go with the P220.

HKs are great but their triggers leave a lot to be desired.

It's also important which pistol you shoot best. Try them both out.

Good luck, let us know what you decide. :)

Thanks coltman, I definitely plan to shoot all the guns I am recommended, I've handled the HK, never shot it though.

Glock 36 is probably the best carry .45 there is. Not that expensive, more accurate than it should be, and "expendable" if need be (in an actual shooting, the cops are going to have your gun for awhile, etc), and easily replaced with another "just like it".

Not at all from experience, just some ideas on what other carry .45s are out there and seem to have a good reputations besides those already mentioned:

--Kahr P45
--S&W CS45
--S&W M&P45C
--Springfield XD45 Compact
--Any number of compact 1911s in many price ranges

Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the help and giving me some ideas, I wonder if anyone has any specific experience with the Kimber Ultra carry.. I've heard there customer service is lacking.

Others have been mentioned, I shot a S&W M&P .40 S&W
and liked the sights, controls, and the grip fit - I don't know
which of the 3 different backstraps it had.

S&W M&P 45C with or without a thumb safety
8 rounds listed capacity.

ALso, the Colt CCO = Combat Carry Officers is the
1911 in Officers frame but a 4.25" Bbl.Commander slide
length. Colt isn't making the CCO currently, but several
manufactueres offer a similar format, I think one of the
newest on the Market is the S&W Compact ES. Sig has
several models. STI makes one as well.

Heck, nobody has mentioned the Dan Wesson CBOB.

Glock 30 is a nice ccw piece as well.

+1 G30 is a great carry. So is the G36. Of course, my Springer Micro is a sweet carry gun as well.:D

there are a lot of versions of the sig 220, I held one today the SAO and also held a hk 45 compact (da/sa not lem) a few min before.

now, i'm ergo biased towards the HK 45c (i have a full sized 40 USP), but i like the 'condition 1' carry (cocked and locked like a 1911) of the HK with the safety being closer to the rear of the gun and also acting as the decocker, vs. a separate lever on the Sigs. And I find the ambi mag release on USPs to be fantastic. And the paranoid among us will say it's nice to have a SA/DA trigger with which to strike that dud primer again when needed.

but it's a big pistol, even in 'compact' :) I have a former cop friend who swears by his metal sigs, and I've loved 10 yrs of USP ownership --- both are quality marques, find what fits your hand and needs and enjoy!

No doubts

...

Sig P220 SAO Carry or DA/SA Carry

Works anytime, every time, straight out of the box, with real Sig 3-dot night sights.

Accuracy you can count on, via 2-hand, or one hand, grip.

Simplicity at its best for the easiest, fastest, disassembly, inspections, cleanings, and reassembly, bar none.

Throw a pair of CTC laser grips on her and she is the all around perfect gun good to go with any holster out there.

My old roommate has an Ultra Carry that ive fired many times. it is a reliable shooter. it has an aluminum frame which i dont like on 1911's. your looking at $850ish for the base model NIB. thats quite a bit.

for a bit more you can get yourself a dan wesson. they are hand tuned beauties.

I have had no issues carrying my XD45 compact 4" in a crossbreed supertuck on a crossbreed gunbelt. It is very light for a gun of its size and you get 10+1 rounds of .45.

I highly recommend it.

Any of the .45 Glock models would do nicely as well.

Great responses, I've been leaning more on the 1911 which isn't what I was originally planning. My local store had a Kimber, which wasn't the compact model, I liked it but some personal reviews haven't been that great for them. I like the look of the Dan Wesson's, I may look at upping my budget a bit and taking a good look at the CCO Bobtail.
Plans for shooting:
HK 45c
Sig P220C
Dan Wesson CCOb
Kimber UltaCarry
Xd45
G30/G36
And both the S&W models if I can, a lot to go over.

How is the customer service for Dan Wesson stuff? I've had experience with Glock and Sig.

S&W M&P 45c - medium size 8 +1
Kahr P45 - small-medium, thin 45ACP 6+1

I wish S&W would make a 9 or 10 +1 10mm just like the 45c.

Kimber Ultra Carry II with 3" barrel (a shorty 1911) for daily carry and Rock Island Armory M1911A1 for duty carry. Recently acquired both and both outshoot my Glocks. Both worked perfectly right out of the box.

Glock 36 is a good gun. Should have no trouble at all with it running perfectly as that's pretty much what Glocks do. For duty, however, I would be required to carry the Glock 21 because of the longer barrel and 13+1 capacity. But for plain clothes duty or just plain CCW the 36 should work well.
