I have to say the SIG P220 Is where the list should start and end.
It is as reliable or more so then Glocks,
It is the most accurate out of the box .45acp in DA/SA that is in production
I carry one all day any more, and love it. i went from a Wilson CQB, to my P220 and dont regret it. i own 59 1911's and they no longer get carried except for special occassions.:D

The new short frame .45 Glocks haven't been trouble free if you read Glock Talk. I trust my 2nd gen G-30 though.

I owned four USP's and they were all trouble free, they would even feed my semi wadcutter (jacketed) loads. My G-30 will not.

My USP .45 never had a failure of any kind, and if it weren't shaped like a brick, I would still own it.

I would trust the new HK45 sight unseen over any other .45 out there for out of the box reliablilty.

Does HK make a LEM kit for the fullsize usp?

You might consider a usp compact 45, mine is almost a fullsize pistol!!

The make a LEM kit for DAO if that's your M.O....

I chose sig but the hk45 was close behind. It was a tie so I did eeny miny miny mo :)

I absolutely love this pistol...and I am most definately sending in the coupon for the .45ACP conversion at $399

Why? With a little shopping I would find a "whole" 220 for that money.

Law Enforcement & US Military

Most LE individuals, whether Federal or State, are issued Glock weapons for a reason---dependability in a life threatening situation! Our Navy Seals are usually assigned Sig Sauer-- either will serve one well, but it's all about the training, range time and familiarity of your weapon of choice!

Glock weapons are issued because they can be issued much cheaper than HK, SIG, Colt etc.

I love my XD 45. But if you have the funds I would say go for HK everytime.

Glock 21 gets my vote, with the Sig 220 a close second.

Not knowing your level of experience or intended use the G21's simple manual of arms and consistent trigger pull is a good balance of compromises. The P220 can be made to fire DAO with a heavy pull. If you are new to firearms the Glock will be easier to master. If you are experienced and looking to expand your horizons the P220 is a fantastic platform for a 45ACP.

Some others have suggested XD, FN, 1911's. Aside from some higher end 1911's (ones that don't have barrel rust issues) the guns on your list cover the 45ACP pretty well.

I use to be a 1911 bigot. My carry gun is a Colt officer's model, and I have owned full size Springfields and shot Colts and Kimbers. Recently I traded for a Glock 21 SF. What a revelation. This is probably the most accurate .45 I have ever shot besides a highly-tuned Gold Cup. There is something special about 13 shots of 45 ACP in your hand.

Three and a half year old thread and the OP hasn't been back in three and a half years. My guess is he/she has made a decision by now.
