Which .45ACP pistol do you recommend?

-Glock 21SF
-HK45
-HK USP
-Sig Sauer P220

I am a little torn because I have experience with Glocks. I like how Glocks have all passive safeties. HK makes fine weapons. I have shot their MP-5's, but they have active safeties which must manually and consciously be disengaged before firing. The P220 has a smaller magazine capacity than the other choices and I have heard that the P220 is one of the weaker-designed .45ACPs. Can anyone confirm this? However, the Sig has passive safeties such as an extra long trigger pull for the first shot.

With this being said, please help me decide what .45 I should buy. What are your reasons? Which is most accurate, reliable, rugged, etc.? Thanks.

I have a USP and a P-220; both are great guns but I would take the USP over the P-220 just because of magazine capacity. I hope you have large hands because the USP and the P-220 are both very large.

I guess out of those choices, I would say USP.. however if you don't already have 2 1911s, you should get them, matched or mismatched

of your choices and with you input about the thumb safety, i'd recommend the Sig 220

of the 4 listed, the 220 will actually have the smallest grip, while the Glock will have the largest.

i've found the 220 to be the most accurate, followed by the HK45. the Sig has a better trigger. the HK45 is the most lefty friendly with identical controls on both sides...the HK45 was designed as a product upgrade for the USP

alot of folks also prefer the metal frame of the 220 over the polymer frames of the others

if i were picking a polymer framed .45, i'd take a look at the Springfield XD45

Of those listed, I would go with the P220. I have a SIG P226 Blackwater 9mm and it has proven to be a very well made, and excellenty shooting pistol.

However, if you are looking for a hi-cap .45acp, my vote would be a FNP-45, which is what I have, primarily as a HD gun. Before picking the FNP-45, I did try a glock 21 (not an SF model though), a S&W M&P, an XD, and a Taurus 24/7-OSS. The FN fit my hand much better then the others (I have small hands), and I was partial to a DA/SA with decocker - just my preferred style of pistol.

The FNP-45 is just a superb pistol, IMO - big and heavy, true, but then so are any of the full size double stack .45acp guns.

I'll second the XD45.

Mine has well over 4K without a hiccup, and will tear one ragged hole if I do my part. One of the easiest guns to shoot well I've ever seen.

I have heard that the P220 is one of the weaker-designed .45ACPs.
This may or may not be true but I really dont think it is worth taking into consideration as the difference is most absolutely negligible.

HK...either USP or (my preference due to ergonomics) HK45C. Check out the totally non-biased;) site of HKPro. Those guys know HKs inside and out.

Depends on the intended use. For a duty pistol, I'll choose the Glock 21. Duty loadout of 40 rds vs the 25 for the 220. Don't care at all for the H&K. Just personal preference. I have a 21 and a 220 and have carried both. The 220 does have a smaller grip, at the expense of capacity. If carrying concealed, the 220 for sure, although it's a bit on the large size too. Reliability of all of the above is pretty much even. The presence/absence of a safety is a non issue for me.

hello marine man,

of the choices given i would choose the P 220. reason being, i already shoot a P 226, i love the way it feels, shoot it well, and they are very similar. also i HATE an external safety. as to it being a weak design, i would think that is probably not true. but i am NOT an expert, and truthfully do not know which of those listed is the strongest.

that said, all of em are great pistols imho, and you would likely be well served by any of them.

HK45C - I sold my 220 Carry to get it. I had issues with the SIG with the last round FTE although it was incredibly accurate. I sent it back twice for repair. Never was right, lost confidence in the gun. I have owned other SIGS which I was totally happy with so I am not against them, they are awesome guns although I know there were others out there that had the same problem with their 220's.
With that being said I absolutely love the HK45c. As accurate as the SIG, to me it has less felt recoil, and is much more comfortable to carry.

.45

I have an older P220, with the stamped slide. It is an absolutely reliable workhorse. FNP is worth looking at too.
