We had good weather today and I had a new toy that I still hadn't shot, so I grabbed my stuff, picked up my dad (Ron in PA), and went to the range.

The first of my guns that I shot was my S&W Model 14-3 .38. Between Dad and I we put about 35 rounds of Sellier & Bellot .38 Special wadcutters
through it. We shot at 10 yards offhand, single action slow fire. Results = 1 ragged hole. I think the dry-firing I've been doing with it since I bought it has paid off. I have a new favorite gun.

While Dad was shooting the Model 14, I took out my Model 18-3, .22 LR on a K-Frame. It's a really nice shooter, but the cheapo Winchester XPert .22 ammo I had doesn't let the gun perform to its potential. I need to find out what ammo it prefers.

The last gun I brought was my High Power. I had two new KRD 17 round mags to try out. I loaded them before leaving the house and they felt
funny doing so. I got several jams -- FTFs -- with each mag the first time I ran each through the gun. When reloading them, I noticed that if I use a mag loader and push down all the way on the rounds in the mag, they get sort of cockeyed. So, I was more careful loading them, and after that they were 100% reliable.

Dad brought along a S&W Model 640-2 .38 snubbie, his Glock 17 9mmP, and his SIG P-228 9mmP. He had new Uncle Mike's Boot Grips on the Smith. They are very compact but still allow one to get a good grip and maintain control over the gun. I put 5 adcutters and 5 125 grain Golden Sabers through it. Nice.

I put 10 rounds through the G-17. Reliable but boring.

The SIG is a very nice pistol. I put 20 rounds through it. This was only the second time I've fired a SIG. The first was 5 shots a number of years a go through a .40 S&W P-229, which sold me on SIGs.

It was interesting shooting the Browning, Glock, SIG, and the Smiths side by side. Glocks have the reputation for low muzzle flip, but I didn't notice it being any better than my High Power. The SIG, on the other hand, has more muzzle flip. Neither the Glock nor the SIG compare to the BHP, though, in my opinion.

However, I came to the conclusion that I really like and prefer shooting wheelguns. For some reason, a S&W K-Frame revolver is the nicest-shooting handgun there is for me. I guess it's time to get a
Model 19 or 66 in .357. :)

That Smith 14 is one sweet revolver, only got to shoot 15 rounds, but what a trigger. Old Smiths only get better with age.

I put 100 rounds through my SIG 228 and 50 through my Glock 17, but neither is as nice as the Hi-Power.
