It's worth it to keep an eye open for deals. Today, I just walked out the door of a local pawn shop with a 1976 pre-safety Marlin 336 Texan straight stock in 30-30, something I had been looking for lately. No photos at the moment, but she's in excellent condition. The only problem is that somebody thought the walnut bull's eye was where to mount a sling swivel stud. Oh well. Since it set me back $250 OTD, I couldn't be happier.

That is a good price for any 336 and the straight stocked versions should bring a little more. The 1970's era guns are my favorites and I only buy the Texans, no pistol grips for me. I have several with 20" barrels, one with a 16" barrel and need one with an 18" barrel to complete the collection. Marlin tweaked the stock shape over the years and the ones from that era are my favorite. They are slim and compact without all the extra un needed wood on the forend.

The swivel stud can be moved and a new bulls eye ordered from Marlin. I've done one like that and have another I need to fix. I'm amazed at how many people do this.

That is a great deal! That is also my favorite version of the 336. Great Find!!
