My little sister just graduated from law school a couple weeks ago. I thought I would get her something clever so I got her the Liegi derringer from Pedersoli that comes in a case that looks like a book and says on the outside "Law for SelfDefence." I ordered it from Cabelas. Since I am also in law school, I decided to pick up one for me at the same time - nothing wrong with an early graduation gift. 
I wasn't sure how she would feel about getting her first gun. She is certainly not into guns at all, but she did like the gift very much. I think getting a blackpowder gun for someone may be a good way to introduce them to firearms.
I included a few caps but no ball or powder. It is mostly a curio, but perhaps she will be more interested in getting another gun someday.
