Good Guy With a Gun Stops Bad Dog

Oh, you've done it now.. Don't you know those dogs just had bad owners, Rottweilers don't just attack for no reason.... that guy should have called the police instead of shooting the dog....
Yes of course I'm being sarcastic. I really am surprised that was reported in a favorable light. Thanks for sharing.:)

How heartless, he could have used pepper spray:rofl:.
A 230g FMJ ended the attack on me and my dog by two unleashed dogs, I did not hit either one but have not seen them since.

I'm usually a pretty compassionate individual but one time a stray Shepard looking dog came up and killed two of our goats and was growling at my wife like it was going to attack her. One 9MM Hydra Shock in the chest took care of that one. Wife said "You missed it". Nope. It ran about 50 feet on adrenalin.

I love Shepards, but they are mischievous. I once had one that had free run of the farm we lived on and never caused any problems for his first 2yrs. Then a guy in a rental house down the road moved in with his Shepard. The two of them started chasing cows and injured a calf. Had to give him to my nephew who had a high fenced yard.

I don’t believe in bad dogs just bad owners.
While I agree to some extent, right or wrong, that belief doesn't help that kid. Some dogs are more prone to such behavior. Just like some breeds of cattle and chickens are more high strung, like it or not Rots, and Pits are among those more likely to attack unprovoked. Add to that: one Rot or Pit is more lethal than a herd of bad tempered Chihuahuas would be.
You are correct about bad owners in the sense that many do not believe thier dogs are capable of such attacks until they get loose one day and it happens.

My salutations and praise to Mr. Patrick. His actions were rapid and correct.

Mr. Patrick said others tried to help. I appreciate them as well. However, the others were armed with makeshift cudgels and a paint gun. Only lethal force - in the form of a handgun - was truly effective in stopping the attack. Remember that in related discussions.

Excellent! I love dogs but I'm also cautious around them, I was attacked by some mutt while walking home from work years ago, I was bit above my right knee, I bashed its head in with my multi tool that ended up loosing it's lock, the dog was put down by animal patrol for attacking a 3 year old the week before.

In places like Virginia they will try to charge you with a felony if you shoot a dog unless you are covered with dog bites.
I say use a tire iron, jack handle or a baseball bat, but if you do make sure you have a baseball glove and a ball to go with that bat or the jack that the jack handle goes to.
You could use bear spray but that is a half measure and it will probably happen again to someone else later on.

Should have tried talking to it first. Dog was probably just having a bad day while he was trying to better his life.

There was a scene in Yellowstone where Rip had to put down a horse. “Rather kill 100 bad men than an innocent animal”. Or something to that effect.

I’m not even going to bother with that frankly.

If a vicious dog is attacking me or is killing a child or someone else, I’m shooting it.
Which is the whole point of the video, is that you're legally in the clear for doing exactly that.

But .... the exercise of self-defense must be reasonable and it must be proportionate. If it's a vicious Pekingese that's trying to bite through the toe of your cowboy boot you're going to be in big trouble with the law if you shoot it.

Sounds like common sense to me.

Unleashed aggressive Rott in the neighborhood was what spurred me to start carrying in the first place. One bad interaction with my lab and me with a 3” knife. Luckily things worked out OK and I never did end up needing to shoot that dog. It decided to leave half the neighborhood to my lab and we stayed away from his territory.

There are aggressive species in the Animal kingdom. Keep that in mind. If I see a Rock or Pitt coming down my path, I’m giving myself as much space as possible, don’t care who I offend

Its true (include German Shepherd to that list) but it’s also true that they can be some of the sweetest, most loving dogs out there.

We had a Pitt foster that was just an absolute sweetheart to humans, kids and us, but just HATED my other (very friendly) dogs. Especially my big goofball, won’t hurt a fly, Staffordshire/Lab mix.

So we had to completely separate them, and it was annoying.

But the Pitt has a new family and apparently loves all the dogs she meets at the park. I think she was jealous of our dogs and wanted to stay with us but knew she was the outsider.
