Those Mueller apv's are really nice for the money. Everyone's eyes are different, but I like it a lot better than my sightron s1 4-12x(sold) and diamondback 4-12x(sold). Now the turrets aren't great, but the glass is good.
For lower powered optics I like the diamondback 1.5-5x32 and the Weaver 2-7x rimfire scopes pretty well.
Nikon prostaff and Bushnell trophy are pretty solid in the 3-9x range. But generally, cheaper scopes tend to be darker when you look through them and the colors may be kind of off or yellowy, and it tends to get worse as you get to higher magnifications. For instance, I've had 2 vortex Diamondbacks. A 1.5-5x that was bright and clear, and a 4-12x that, above about 9x was pretty dark and blurry. Leupold, in my experience, is overpriced for what you get.
Knowing what kind of rifles helps a lot too. A red dot on an AR requires a high mount that the same!e dot on a 10/22 wouldn't. Likewise a 1-4x scope is great on a 30/30, not so good on a 6.5mm creedmoor Ruger precision rifle.
