Thought since there was a bad range story.....I'd post a good range story.

The participants..........myself, my wife........and my 18 year old son. Hadn't taken him shooting since he was knee high to a grasshopper with .22's (His mother and I went through the big "D" several years ago)

The weapons......a Ruger MKII .22, a Walther PPK/S .380, a Beretta 92FS 9mm, Sig P-220 .45acp, Colt AR-15 CMP Target Model.....and a CMP USGI SA/SG M1 Garand!!!!!

Gave him some basic firearms instruction/safety lessons......and before you know it he was getting nice COM groups with the Beretta. He really like shooting that pistol. I then had him try out the Sig.......told him it will recoil a bit more than the 9mm!!!! He did manage to hit the target!!!!

After shooting the handguns we moved over to the rifle range......need to make sure the sights were set for the AR........as I'll be taking it to a Patrol Rifle Instructor Course (LEO) in a few weeks. After making sure it was set...I let my son blast away with a few hundred rounds. Again.......not too bad for a first time out.

Then came my favorite......the Garand!!!!!! He shoot that as well........after he got used to the recoil......lol.......he was shooting that ok too.

I think I created a monster....he can't wait to go shooting again......even offered to come over and clean all the weapons!!!!!!!

always nice to hear a good father/son story like this...makes me wish my dad was into guns ::sniff sniff::....oh well, guess I'll have to make sure I don't make that mistake with any kids *I* have. :D

My 11-year-old son and I went to the range this morning. Monday is a good time because we almost always have the place to ourselves.
We each shot .22 e-mail benchrest matches at 25 yards. I shot one at 50 too. We both could have done better but it was a lot of fun.

After the .22 rifle shooting, I took advantage of the expanded time limit for the June Mail In Match and shot rhino targets with my Dad's old 12 gauge Model 12 Winchester and my Ruger Redhawk .41 Magnum. I hadn't shot the .41 in a while and it felt really good to have it at the range.

My son has been keeping a record of every gun and type of ammo he's shot. Today the new gun was a Bauer .25 automatic pistol, a copy of the Browning Baby .25. My son broke a clay target with the .25 at about two yards and figured that was enough for him. I broke a couple more clays one handed at about three yards, but it took me the rest of the six round mag.

Then we took turns shooting a plastic detergent jug at 100 yards. I shot at it from standing, and he shot from a bench. We each managed to hit it several times and went home smiling.

Sadly, my son is more into his music & his band than guns & shooting. :( He told me he can get more girls w/ his guitar than with a gun. I gotta agree w/ him on that one :D
