I am going to go against the current of the thread here a bit - you say ranges to 150 yards, mostly target shooting and maybe hunting next year.
If you said mostly hunting with some range use, I would say 3-9 for sure - something with clear glass, good eye relief and maybe a 30/30 reticle.
IMO, if you are on the range more than hunting, 9x is not going to work well for precision shooting at 150 yards. Something in the 14-24x range is going to be useful and you may want fine crosshairs, good detents on the turrets and zero reset if possible (probably not at <200 though).
A scope can do both, but for hunting I think fairly lightweight, crosshairs visible in crappy light and maybe basic rangefinding ability. For target shooting, I want lots of magnification and clarity, adjustments that are easy to count and reset and as little as possible obscuring the target. A bit of weight does not bother me for a target scope either - I just have to lug the rifle from the car to the range.
