I have two Intensity Optics 3.8-12x44 AO's, one mounted on a 10/22, and one that used to be mounted on a Savage 93R17, and a 6.5-20x44 AO that is currently mounted on the Savage.
The 3.8-12x44 is from what I can tell one of the few that use aspherical lenses, and the picture quality is very good. If you're into photography you know how much more camera lenses with aspherical elements can cost and the improvements they bring.
Great scopes, they were being closed out at
Natchez for less than $100 each, when they are in stock.
Check out this
thread on Rimfire Centra for a discussion of the scope.
They are made in the Philippines, apparently in the same plant that makes Nikons and other scopes. Intensity is a brand owned by ATK (Federal ammunition), they also own the Weaver and Simmons brand, and it appears that substantially similar scopes used to be branded Simmons.
Edited to add:
Natchez gets them in stock every now and then and I think other vendors may too, check out the thread on Rimfire Central.
You will need pretty high rings. I used the one piece high scope mounts from
Dednutz.
