Sharpening
FWIW, I use different techniques for different edges. In the kitchen, I use a plain jane carborundum stone under running water (keeps the 3 in 0ne out of the salad) usually the fine side, coarse for rescue work.
In the shop, planes and chisels get carborundum and oil.
Pocket knife gets oil or water. 3 blades small sheepfoot beater blade, big blade kept pretty sharp, mostly for cutting line, barlow blade kept shaving sharp.
Sheath knife for camping is laminated, Swedish steel and sharpened to same angle all the way back from edge, no secondary bevel.
Rigging knife on boat has a serrated portion on blade, use diamond hone or edge corner of carborundum stone.
Diamond hones, Arkansas stones etc. are cabinet queens, but I like having them.
