Myself and two co-workers went to a place we know to do a little shooting.
We spent four and a half hours up in the hills north of Foster Lake, shooting
everything we brought. Glorious weather, great company, lots of ammo.

Weapons on hand were...

Rifles:
Two M1 Garands
M1 Carbine
Ruger 10/22
Stevens Model 87A 22 cal.
Pump action 22 cal.

Hand guns:
S&W 44. mag. wheel gun
.357 revolver, make forgotten
S&W model 422 semi-auto
Colt 1911
Beretta 92FS

Plus more I've forgotten.

Got my first real instruction with a hand gun. I did well and was very satisfied. Not to mention it was just plain fun!
The funny thing is, my TO weapon for a time in the Corps was a 1911A1. I only fam-fired it, was never required to qualify with it. I missed out on something there, I'm sure.
My instructor was a co-worker and another former Marine with a lot of hand gun training. He's shot with HRTs in practice, done many hours of building clearing drills, etc., many thousands of rounds through 9 mm and .45 cal.
He had me up and operating quickly. What a blast!
I'm looking for one of those S&W 422s, they are fun! My fingers hurt from reloading the magazines, I had so much fun.
The 1911 was entirely too cool. More fun than I should have been allowed to have. I need one of those, too.

The third member of our crew, a former Navy type, took a real liking to the .45. He's now looking for one for carry purposes. He's been a pretty good shot with a hand gun for some time, and did well on his first go round with the 1911. He's got sore fingers from reloading the mags, too.

We all played with the long guns. We received an order of 1400 rounds of 30.06 Friday, took much of it with us today to feed the Garands. I shot mine more today than I ever have before in one session.
My buddy, the other former Gyrene, was able to shoot his, too. He's new to it, never torn it down for cleaning before and expects I'll have to show him how all the little parts go back together.
We've got to clean today as the 30.06 was the mildly corrosive Korean mil-surp.

I tried an inexpensive brand of .30 Carbine ammo that was new to me, American Ammo. It fed my M1 just fine. It was quite content and did a real number on some clays we had set out for targets at up to 100 yards downrange. It was perfectly happy in the hands of all of us, performing well all day.

The Ruger 10/22 got one heck of a workout. Like everyone else, we found .22s to be way more fun than we should have been allowed to have.

All of us sunburned pretty well. We managed to forget the sunscreen until we had been up there an hour or so. I missed a few places when I finally slathered it on.
Had a few issues with the hat I brought along, interfering with my hearing protection. Took off the hat temporarily, then got caught up in the fun and forgot to put it back on.
Toasted bald spot. Ouch.

But still, way too much fun today to let a little sunburn get in the way.
Got to go clean my Garand.
