A really great range day. (Just a long story about shooting.)

This won't be the most exciting thread but I had so much fun today I had to share.

My great neighbor, and even better friend, decided that this afternoon would be a good chance to go to the range and make some noise.

I brought my:

M1 Garand
Mini-14
Mosin Nagant M38
Mossberg Model 500

My friend had his:

Remington 870
Glock G36

We loaded my truck and took off for the range. To my great surprise, and delight, the gate was closed and chained when we showed up, we had the range to ourselves!

Up first we took my friends Glock and did some shooting on the pistol line. Dang that little G36 has a sharp recoil! But I did manage to shoot it very respectably, although my friend is a MUCH better pistol shot than I am! But it was still fun.

After that we set up my new clay pigeon thrower and shot some clays. It was my first outing with it and oh man was it fun! Is there anything more satisfying than watching those clays absolutely disintegrate in a puff of gray dust when you pull the trigger? :D

We traded guns several times and both had a blast! I have GOT to get back and shoot some more clays ASAP!

At this point we were running out of daylight so we decided to shoot some rifles before it was too dark. I had brought a bunch of milk jugs and laundry detergent jugs full of water. I set them at 100 yard line along with a few clays for good measure and we loaded up.

My friend had never shot an M1 so he was up first, and after popping several of the water containers and some of the clays I set up on the berm, he sat up wearing the standard gigantic Garand grin! It's amazing how a Garand can bring a smile to someones face.

The real star of the show ended up being my M38. I always knew it had a pretty good muzzle flash but I had never shot it when it was getting dark out. MY GOD! The muzzle flash on this thing was simply astonishing! In addition to the tremendous muzzle blast, the flash was just AWESOME!

We finally packed up, policed the brass, and called it a day.

Well, if you made it this far then I hope you enjoyed my story. Today was just so much fun I wanted to spread my excitement around.
